We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineering professional with a passion for exceptional client service to join our team as a Department Manager in our Pittsburgh, PA office.
In this role, you will oversee and monitor all ongoing projects within the department, ensuring they are completed on time, meet client requirements, and align with company policies, procedures, and standards. You will also be responsible for preparing proposals and cost estimates, ensuring accurate scoping of services, manpower availability, and pricing to achieve desired profitability.
As Department Manager, you will manage daily operations, including staff training and development, equipment and facility utilization, safety oversight, quality control, and timely delivery of services and deliverables. Additional responsibilities include participating in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Prepare proposals and cost estimates
- Engage in business and client development activities
- Develop and manage employee staffing plans, including recruitment, selection, and onboarding
- Collaborate with the Office Manager to prepare and execute the department's annual business plan
- Oversee key department metrics, including revenue growth, staff utilization, project billing and collections, and profitability
- Develop an understanding of project-related risks and implement strategies to mitigate them in accordance with company policies
- Lead safety initiatives for the team, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and promoting pre-task planning for all projects
- Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects, ensuring quality standards are met and involving APRs at the start of projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline such as Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience
- Master’s degree or PhD preferred
- Previous supervisory experience
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- PA PE License
Preferred Certification:
- Certification or licensure in the relevant field of expertise
