Sentara Heart Hospital located on the Campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for the Cardiac Cath Holding Care - Pre-Op Unit! Up to $ 7,500 Sign on Bonus available for qualified candidates. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of just five Level1 trauma centers in Virginia, home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and the region's first Magnet hospital and nationally ranked heart program at the Sentara Heart Hospital. The hospital sits on the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus which serves as the primary teaching institution. Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area.
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital was named the Best Hospital for Cardiac Care in Virginia by Healthgrades. The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks in the nation for best heart programs.
This position is Part-Time working two 12-hour shifts a week 6A-6P in our preop area. No weekends and no call requirements. Typically, our preop RNs will prep and chart on 8-12 patients a day. Department/Position Overview: • We are a CARE Unit: Cardiac Assessment, Recovery, and Evaluation Unit.
• Our unit is open 6A-11P Monday-Friday. We admit and recover patients mostly during the day and have a light night team for patients that need observation.
• The unit prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, and Minor Procedure Room as well as the Cardiac OR for surgery.
• The average patient volume each day for this unit is approximately 40-60 patients.
• The types of procedures that we prepare and recover patients for include but is not limited to: Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery and ICDs/Pacemakers etc, and Cardiac OR.
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
Experience/Education/Licensure/Certifications: Diploma RN, associate degree RN, bachelor's degree RN, or master's degree RN.
All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within 1 year of hire date.
RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible.
RN should have 1year of nursing experience and cardiac knowledge.

BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
