General Description
Performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard design engineering techniques for a small project or selected segments of a larger project. Exercises independent judgment in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard design engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to make minor design adaptations and modifications. This is a senior-level position in the Civil Structural Engineering group which reports to a Staff/Senior Staff Engineer in the discipline or directly to the Discipline Manager. Requires minimal instruction from supervisor to perform job function. May supervise lower-level engineers and drafting/design staff when functioning as project engineer.
Duties & Responsibilities.
· Assignments involve some unusual or difficult engineering problems requiring job knowledge and abilities beyond entry level.
· In addition to functioning in the capacity of an in-house staff engineer, duties may also be performed in a plant engineering capacity within a clients’ operating facility or in a field engineering capacity in support of a construction project.
· Supervises the work of others through the planning, review and scheduling of specific project tasks when functioning as a project lead engineer.
· Must possess basic project management skills including ability to assist Project Managers with manpower estimates and project schedules.
· Prepares equipment purchase specifications and datasheets, assembles and issues RFQ packages, expedites and clarifies vendor bids, tabulates bid results and recommends equipment for purchase.
· Interfaces directly with clients, at the direction of the Project Manager, to discuss specific discipline related issues requiring technical input.
· Performs engineering calculations and prepares detailed reports for peer review.
· Reviews and comments on documents and reports prepared by other engineers including calculations, specifications, datasheets, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
· Requires a four-year Engineering degree (BS in Civil or Structural engineering)
· 10+ years design engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Civil/Structural Engineering or related functional area
· Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and engineering related computer software (i.e., RISA3D, STADD, ENERCALC, MATHCAD or similar software)
· Ability to multitask with good time management skills.
· General working knowledge of current design codes and standards (i.e. IBC, AISC, ASCE 7, ACI, MSHA, OSHA)
· CADD literate
· Good oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred but not necessarily required.
· Active membership in a professional Organization (i.e. AISC,ICC or AISC)
· Willingness to participate in onsite visits which may require overnight travel
· O&G, refining, mining or other heavy industrial experience
