Position Title: Senior-Level Structures Estimator
Location: Phoenix, AZ

Reporting to: Chief Estimator / Senior Estimator
Compensation: $125,000-$135,000
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior-Level Structures Estimator to join our team. This role involves providing turnkey estimating services from project advertisement through award and budget creation. You will estimate a wide variety of structures-related projects, including bridges (substructure and superstructure), retaining walls, shoring, cast-in-place structures, precast structures, box culverts, and other heavy civil/heavy highway work.
Your role requires strong communication and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with clients, subcontractors, material suppliers, design firms, and other stakeholders, ensuring accurate and comprehensive structure estimates. You will work in a team environment alongside the Banicki Estimating Team, Chief Estimator, Senior Estimator, and operational staff to develop competitive bids within strict timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Bid Preparation:
- Assemble complete structure estimates, including heavy civil and highway work, using HCSS Heavy Bid.
- Calculate and compile data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment costs for the full scope of work.
- Review plan sets, geotechnical reports, and perform site visits and attend pre-bid meetings to rapidly assess structural projects.
- Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs using OST, Planswift, Excel, and Bluebeam.
Data & Historical Analysis:
- Review historical data (productivity reports, bid tabs, POs, subcontracts, etc.) to compile summary reports and create guidelines for estimates.
- Integrate historical data into unit and man-hour figures within HCSS Heavy Bid.
Subcontractor and Supplier Management:
- Manage subcontractor requests for proposals (RFPs) and establish contact with suppliers to ensure accurate and up-to-date pricing.
- Review design options and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective solutions based on material availability and engineering quality.
Bid Reviews and Process Improvement:
- Lead bid review sessions with the Chief Estimator and management team before bid submission.
- Continuously improve estimating processes, system utilization, and performance.
Contract Management:
- Support awarded contracts by estimating additional work items, processing change orders, managing credits, and procuring materials as necessary.
Position Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of operational experience on structures-related projects including bridges, retaining walls, cast-in-place structures, precast structures, box culverts, and other heavy civil/highway work.
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in the same project types.
- Proficient in HCSS Heavy Bid, OST, Excel, and Bluebeam with at least 5 years of experience using these tools for estimating structures-related projects.
Skills:
- In-depth technical knowledge of structural scopes, civil construction, engineering principles, and construction methods/materials.
- Strong understanding of production rates, crew organization, equipment allocation, work sequencing, and scheduling.
- Proven leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Skills and Certifications:
- Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience using estimating software such as HCSS, Heavy Bid, or AGTEK.
- 8 years of experience estimating structures such as bridges, large retaining walls, cast-in-place structures, and other heavy civil projects.
