About the Role
As the Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Supervisor, your key responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of electrical instrumentation and control systems within Underground mining operations. Your role will be vital in ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of electrical equipment, as well as optimizing control systems to boost productivity and reduce downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management:
- Provide effective leadership to the electrical instrumentation and controls team, comprising technicians and engineers.
- Develop and implement strategies aimed at maximizing team efficiency, productivity, and morale.
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and ongoing improvement within the department.
Maintenance and Repair of Electrical Systems:
- Supervise the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, including power distribution, motors, lighting, and communication networks.
- Design and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to prioritize and schedule repairs, inspections, and upgrades.
Management of Instrumentation and Control Systems:
- Oversee and optimize the performance of instrumentation and control systems such as PLCs, DCS, and HMIs.
- Work closely with engineering teams to design, install, and commission new control systems and instrumentation enhancements.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments of control systems to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Project Leadership:
- Lead projects related to electrical instrumentation and controls from initial concept to final implementation, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to secure materials, equipment, and services as required.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during project planning, execution, and commissioning phases.
Training and Professional Development:
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skills, knowledge, and competencies of electrical instrumentation and controls personnel.
- Keep current with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements related to electrical instrumentation and controls.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field; advanced degree or professional certifications
- At least 4 years of experience in electrical instrumentation and controls, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity within mining or heavy industry. Underground experience highly desired
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems utilized in mining operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex projects from inception to completion.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, ISA).
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and enterprise asset management
