Air Liquide Large Industries provides our customers with industrial gas and energy solutions that are vital to their own industrial production. We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries.
How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
The Plant Engineer is responsible for day to day operations and troubleshooting, to identify report and develop solutions to plant production bottlenecks. In addition, the Plant Engineer is responsible for executing tasks necessary to maintain air permit compliance. The position is a developmental position, leading to plant management at this or another Air Liquide facility.
- Support in operating the plant safely, reliably and efficiently; maintain health, safety, environmental and regulatory compliance Meet/exceed company safety standards; provide HSE leadership to site technicians; actively champion life critical safety systems
- Support/comply with all health, safety and environmental procedures as directed by local/corporate personnel, safety departments
- Lead site MOC program
- Support/lead normal maintenance and preventive maintenance activities along with the site maintenance supervisor
- Support/comply with all process safety management and risk management plan practices
- Maintain required regulatory documentation (FDA, Food Safety, MOC, etc)
- Support, coordinate and manage operating permit reporting, monitoring and renewal requirements to ensure compliance with federal, state and local rules/regulations
- Provide regulatory training; maintain documentation of training of production technicians
- Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions are completed
- Keep plant hazard analysis current; display thorough knowledge of possible hazards/associated safeguards
- Own key operating documents; maintain updated red-lines at all times; display detailed understanding of content and significance of each document
- Ensure GTs are understood, followed by plant staff
- Ensure operating procedures are followed/updated as needed
- Ensure operating rounds are completed each shift consistently and signed-off, actions are taken as required
- Perform process troubleshooting; make plant/process decisions to meet plant production needs; support in the resolution of technical and operational issues along with development of corrective and preventive actions
- Identify/recommend process changes; implement plant projects, as required, to improve plant HSE, reliability, efficiency
- Own Simon reliability incident reporting program
- Own site efficiency program
- Develop capital project scope, cost and schedule as assigned; assist in developing plant budget needs
- Partner with Maintenance Center to execute predictive/preventive maintenance to eliminate failures/unplanned maintenance
- Set/maintain high housekeeping standards
- Pick up responsibilities of operations/maintenance supervision during their absence. This requires a high level of process knowledge and accountability.
- Lead root cause analyses
- Complete assigned action items from audits and other sources on time
- Understand, monitor, optimize operating costs within authorized budget
- Develop cost/economic justification for capital projects; execute capital projects within time/budget requirements
- Identify/implement opportunities to reduce costs; control overtime within established limits
- Utilize national purchasing agreements and frame agreements
- Assist with training new technicians
- Provide candid constructive input to management decisions; actively support those decisions

Are you a MATCH?
- Bachelors degree in Engineering required
- Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.
- Process industry experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of steam systems and steam turbines is preferred.
- Technical/working understanding of ASU plant process/equipment is preferred
- Strong commitment to safety
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants (Process Safety Management, EPA regulations, FDA regulations, state/local regulations)
- Ability to lead root cause analysis investigations
- Trainable on Distributed Process Control (DCS) operation/troubleshooting
- Able to deliver/explain training material to operating personnel
- Organized, effective at time management
- Able to maintain a plant filing system and control of engineering documents
- Ability to read/red-line key operating documents
- Display mechanical and electrical aptitude for equipment operation/troubleshooting
- Strong communication, team leadership skills
- General understanding of accounting principles; ability to learn plant operating budget
- Ability to work extended hours/shift work as business needs dictate
- On call nights, weekends and holidays as required; occasional travel
