Position Title: Senior Battery FA Engineer
Contract Duration: 18 months
Start Date: Mid-September
Work Location: Redmond, WA - 100% on site
Contract Type: W2 Only. No C2C. No 3rd parties.
OVERVIEW/PROJECT DETAILS: The Battery Lab Insights Team manages battery performance, end life cycle, failure analysis, and development of new battery technology.
MUST HAVE SKILLS:
- At least 2 years of experience in battery testing, analysis, or design.
- Knowledge of battery pack operation, including protection functions, thermal management, and serial bus communications (I2C/IIC, SMB/SMBus and BMS)
- Strong background in electrical engineering
- Exceptional troubleshooting skills - working in an ad-hoc environment so will be working on various devices and requirements each day
- Adept at using battery lab equipment, such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, battery cyclers, SMU’s, logic analyzers, and thermal chambers.
- Strong focus on lab safety associated with the handling of hazardous materials.
- Excellent soldering skills including the ability to handle SMD components as small as 0201.
- Ability to organize and present data using spreadsheets and data visualization methods
- Familiarity with executing tests from PC command line
- Experience working in and maintaining 5S in a lab environment
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proactive and eager to learn new technologies and skills
PLUS SKILLS: Consumer electronics experience
- Experience supporting batteries for computers, tablets, phones, accessories
- Electronics Certificate
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or related field, or 5+ years equivalent work experience.
DAY TO DAY:
- Perform battery failure analysis for consumer electronics applications including initial issue diagnosis and specific component failure analysis
- Work with battery suppliers to get root cause and corrective action
- Provide battery pack design improvement feedback to the battery dev team
- Instrument prototype components for use by the development team
- Assist battery pack design engineers in troubleshooting for new designs
- Test and validate fuel gauge chips and new battery firmware algorithms
- Build and maintain a wide variety of battery test and connection fixtures
- Analyze and report test results and findings to the battery engineering team
- Support the development and improvement of battery testing methods and procedures
- Work collaboratively with other technicians and engineers in the battery lab and across departments
- Perform detailed teardowns of battery packs and provide analysis reports to the battery team
