KEY RELATIONSHIPS
The role will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and collaborate within the development engineering group and support other groups within the company such as service and operations.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
We support the design and development of electrical systems, control platforms, board-level control and motor drivers, power distribution, and more to develop and support our products. In all these areas we also ensure that our products meet global standards for safety, emissions and susceptibility, and hazardous substance restrictions.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will work with the team to develop scalable, robust, and high-performing machines. We help our clients to increase their operational efficiencies and provide increased value for their customers.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate in our multidisciplinary teams of engineers to architect, design, document, implement, test, release, and deploy systems on high-speed mail processing equipment.
- Interface with internal & external clients to translate high-level application requirements into deployable solutions.
- Interface with OEM suppliers to identify and adapt various control system technologies for use on our systems.
- Plan and maintain project schedules, and ensure solutions meet all requirements and are delivered within specified timeframes and budget allocations.
- Support manufacturing and service personnel in complex troubleshooting. Some field support & travel required.
- Periodically manage and supervise aspects of electrical installations at client facilities, requiring domestic and international travel
- Support other business unit requirements in maintaining products, requiring domestic travel and some international travel.
QUALIFICATIONS - MINIMUM:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical computer engineering or other electrical engineering discipline
- 10-15 years of experience in electrical engineering
- Demonstrates experience & knowledge in embedded controller design, embedded software (Assembly, Intel, C), Programmable logic (FPGA, Xilinx), Microcontrollers/DSP (TI, Renesas, Atmel),
- Demonstrates experience & knowledge of embedded Analog/Digital design practices, board-level DC power design (DC/DC, AC/DC), Computer interfacing (PCIe, USB, Serial)
- Demonstrates experience & knowledge of embedded servo drive design and implementation, closed-loop position control, specifically current control.
- Demonstrates experience & knowledge of harness and cabling design and system schematic layout in 2D CAD, able to specify connectors and properly size wiring.
- Proven troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve system interdisciplinary level problems, including mechanical and electrical issues under tight timeframes.
- Is a superb communicator - with the ability to effectively liaise with different teams and external suppliers in a friendly and approachable manner.
- Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse and distributed product teams with a hands-on, get-the-job-done attitude.
PREFERRED:
- Familiarity with motion control techniques, with low-level ethernet networking hardware, with high-speed I/O design, with barcode, RFID, OCR scanning systems, optics, and lensing for imaging system technologies is a plus
- Demonstrates experience & knowledge of Orcad Schematic capture and board layout, as well as Mentor graphics capture and board layout a plus.
- OEM Motor and drive specification, analysis, and the ability to analyze servo motor characteristics using a dyno is a plus.
- Knowledge of both international and domestic machine safety standards particularly EN60204, EN62368, and NFPA79 a plus
- A Master’s degree in electrical engineering will be considered but not required.
