POSITION: Instructor of Civil Engineering (Cost Estimation)

POSITION SUMMARY:
This role will provide support the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Civil Engineer School (AFIT/CE) at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.
AFIT/CE is the Air Force's sole provider of Professional Continuing Education (PCE) courses in civil engineering. With more than 70 courses and seminars, the school plans, develops, and conducts resident and distance learning courses and programs to satisfy the professional continuing educational needs of civil engineer customers from the Air Force, DoD, and other federal agencies. More than 5,500 students receive education from AFIT/CE each year.
The school currently offers Air Force courses ranging in length from two days to 12 weeks in the disciplines of technical civil engineer courses, environmental, engineering management, and housing. It is also the leader in distance and blended learning education for the civil engineering workforce, providing the tools, skills, and abilities to manage the entire spectrum of a civil engineering expertise through various media and forums.
This Instructor role will develop and administer PCE developed to educate/train joint service active duty, reservist, and National Guard, officers, enlisted, and civilians on tactical, strategic, and operational levels of Air Force civil engineering processes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, maintain, and teach course material in residence, on site, and via Distance Learning (DL) modes.
- Coordinate course offerings, document courses in accordance with Air Force and AFIT policies and conduct post-offering assessments.
- Interact with various course sponsors to determine education needs in order to develop, maintain, and instruct course content appropriately.
- Instruct in various settings which may include traditional classroom settings and distance learning and may be required to travel to different sites to instruct or develop curriculum.
- Consult or advise as the subject matter expert in Air Force civil engineering business processes and business information systems.
- Participate in consultation efforts, and attend or participate in workshops, conferences, technical interchanges or similar venues as directed by the Government.
- Deliver courseware in civil engineering subject matter and related business information systems in both live and distance learning environments to include Temporary Duty (TDY) locations. Examples of subject matter will include: BUILDER, PAVER, TRIRIGA, housing management, cost estimating, funds management, and cultural resources management. (Additional subject matter and related business information systems may be required as the career field evolves.)
- Assist faculty and staff with graduate-level research, including literature reviews, data collection, technical writing, instruction, and other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass a DoD Tier1 investigation.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field, PLUS 15 years applied experience in Air Force civil engineering processes.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in Air Force civil engineering processes, procedures, and techniques and Business Information Systems (BIS).
- Must have a valid U.S. Passport.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Seasoned experience as a Construction PM (Architect or Engineer).
TRAVEL:
This role will require occasional travel to instruct or attend a seminar/conference at different locations, both CONUS and OCONUS, as the mission requires and approved by the Government. The current travel estimate is once a quarter, however travel needs may change quickly based on requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not supervise the work of others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position, 80%.
