The Director of Technology is responsible for leading the technology efforts of LocumTenens.com and is primarily responsible for the day-to-day tactical execution of software development activities including but not limited to establishing and maintaining industry-standard engineering best practices as well as fostering and administering efficient development methodologies. This position analyzes build or buy options, manages internal or outsourced resources, quality control, and project management of IT related projects. This role fulfills the role of business advisor on technology matters, including research, feasibility, contract review, vendor selection and other tasks to aid the business in making good technology decisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Agile Software Development Manager - 70%
- Leads scrum ceremonies and/or delegates scrum management to team leads
- Plans, manages, and implements development projects including but not limited to integration of LT systems with key strategic technology partners and 3rd party systems ideally via modern REST APIs or cloud-based messaging queues (when possible) while working closely with the LT Product Management Team.
- Ensures development team(s), including testing and quality assurance, outputs meet project requirements.
- Leverages agile development (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) including estimation, test automation, deployment automation, and continuous integration to improve overall execution speed and code quality
- Manages one or more software development teams, outsourced partners, and 3rd party software providers
Strategic Planning - 30%
- Participates in strategic decisions about technology, definition, and implementation of technology products with emphasis on the customer journey and experience
- Monitors service delivery, solicits feedback from the product owners, and ensures excellence in service levels
- Completes special projects including but not limited to proof of concepts (POCs) of new solutions/capabilities as well as technology cost and timeframe estimations of proposed integration efforts while working closely with other Directors and Team Leads to ensure alignment
COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITY
- Manages a team of 10-12 exempt direct reports
- Communicates with external vendors and service providers
- Assists VP, Technology in department budget planning and administration
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field
- 10+ years of related progressive experience, including several years in a management role with high business impact
- Agile Scrum Master certification (ideally SAF Agile strongly preferred)
- DevOps Experience
