SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Senior Buyer/Planner (Sourcing) is responsible for leading the sourcing efforts for new product development and the resourcing project pipeline. This includes managing numerous projects to ensure NPD deadlines and milestones are met, as well as negotiating with suppliers to meet quality, price, delivery, and service requirements while communicating status to team members and stakeholders. This position will work cross-functionally to evaluate suppliers and utilize negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure optimal results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regular Functions include:
Provides recommendations and input to leadership for planning and purchasing various sourcing and resourcing projects.
Participates in the evaluation of suppliers, utilizing appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service for assigned projects.
New Product Development (NPD) and/or Resourcing Projects:
- Research and recommends sources.
- Manages and achieves NPD and/or Resourcing Project launch dates and significant milestones.
- Develops and executes recovery plans.
- Ensures projects are completed within budgeted costs and on time.
- Collaborates with the Engineering and Quality departments to ensure that products meet specifications.
- Supports the Supply Chain in managing inventory levels for optimal results for assigned projects.
Identifies, investigates, evaluates, and/or recommends new suppliers and maintains current suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price, while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
Conducts new supplier site evaluations, assesses supplier production capacity, and participates and/or assists in supplier certification audits.
Prepares and evaluates requests for proposal (RFP) or requests for quotation (RFQ) and negotiates contracts for optimal results for assigned projects.
Recommends and executes LEAN concepts to eliminate waste in the sourcing development cycle.
Supports logistics in achieving the monthly & annual freight spend budgets for assigned projects.
Other duties as required.
Periodic Functions include:
- Develops reports as required for assigned projects.
- Prepares and deliver presentations.
- Travel will be required (approx. up to 10%).
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Takes ownership of assigned projects within the sourcing function.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree related in Operations/Supply Chain Management/ Manufacturing or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sourcing management role in a distribution environment, preferably in a related industry.
Professional/Technical Training and Skills include:
- Demonstrated knowledge of reading blueprints
- Six Sigma / LEAN or other problem-solving tools.
- Experience with inventory management.
- Ability to use Microsoft software including excel, powerpoint, Word, etc.
Licenses and Certifications include:
- Project management skills training an asset.
- ASCM OR EQUIVALENT certification an asset.
