Our client, a full-service mechanical contractor with headquarters in Farmington, Michigan, offers electrical, HVAC, and plumbing solutions to businesses of all kinds, both commercial and industrial. We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical/HVAC Estimator to become a valuable member of our team and help us secure new business prospects. The ideal applicant will have knowledge of mechanical and HVAC system components in general, as well as familiarity with sheet metal and hydronic piping. Leading the estimating process for all commercial and industrial projects will fall under the purview of this candidate.
Responsibilities and Duties for our Mechanical/HVAC Estimator:
- Examine project bid boards to identify projects that are open for bidding and choose those that fit with anticipated and ongoing workloads.
- Participate in pre-bid conferences and project site visits to confirm details that could impact project installation and cost.
- Examine project plans, specifications, and other technical documentation to ascertain the project's scope and evaluate its hazards.
- Recognize the timing and logistics of the project.
- Capable of precisely locating, measuring, and documenting all ductwork and pipe sizes and quantities related to the different mechanical systems.
- Able to create thorough cost analyses for heavy equipment rentals, labor, supplies, equipment, and subcontractors.
- To guarantee an accurate offer is filed, go over all of the bid documents and send in RFIs for clarifications during the bidding process.
- Build trusting connections with suppliers and take advantage of their knowledge to get the best prices on supplies and machinery.
- Keep an eye on market developments and modify your estimation techniques as necessary.
- Examine bid results to help with future proposals and to acquire a better understanding of the market.
- Participate in handoff meetings with the project team to convey to the installation team the special features of the project.
- When asked, create estimates for the work associated with change orders for ongoing projects.
Qualifications, Education, Experience and Skills of our Mechanical/HVAC Estimator:
- A mechanical engineering degree, technical or design education, or comparable field experience and/or estimation are also acceptable.
- 5–10 years of experience estimating for commercial and industrial projects using mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Although not necessary, proficiency with Trimble Estimation is recommended. As needed, we will offer this estimation platform or training.
- Good with Microsoft Word and Excel
- It is advantageous to have prior experience as a prime mechanical contractor.
- A multitasker capable of managing the demands of several simultaneous bidding scenarios.
- Capable of working both individually and together.
- Detail-oriented thinking is essential.
