As an Accessibility Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and equipping our client's engineering quality assurance teams, ensuring the successful delivery of accessible digital products. You will be involved in all aspects of integrating accessibility into manual and automated testing.
Responsibilities include:
- Partnering with Engineering QA to build accessibility into manual and automated testing, understanding user experiences with Assistive Technology, and ensuring feature functionality meets Accessibility Acceptance Criteria (A11y AC).
- Supporting Engineering QA during testing, ensuring A11y AC is met, and providing technical guidance on testing accessibility for Web, IOS & Android apps.
- Reviewing 3rd-Party audit findings, verifying reported issues, creating accessibility user stories, and helping to prioritize accessibility issues with the product team.
- Analyzing validation test results to identify training opportunities, engineering methods needing correction, and processes lacking appropriate accessibility support.
- Attending relevant stand-ups and status meetings.
You will also be expected to:
- Apply your depth of development and technical knowledge to a wide range of our client's digital properties.
- Stay up-to-date on current and existing trends in the accessibility space.
- Partner with Design Accessibility, Design System teams, and Engineering Accessibility Leads to develop and promote the adoption and integration of accessibility policies, procedures, and standards.
Qualifications:
- Ability to think from an end-user perspective and commitment to meeting high expectations of end users.
- Solid experience testing with all common screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, MAC/IOS VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard only, and other assistive technology.
- Ability to interpret and advise on standards, principles, and techniques for meeting accessibility success criteria (including WCAG 2.0 AA, WCAG 2.1 AA, and WAI-ARIA).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, and familiarity with Responsive Web Design and mobile apps.
- Fluency in the software development lifecycle and strong understanding of supporting products in a SAFe environment.
- Knowledge of Rally, Teams, Confluence, and other cooperation tools.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to train and coach colleagues on various accessibility topics.
- Understanding the overlap between user experience and accessibility.
- Ability to analyze (Android, iOS, web) code and employ problem-solving skills to recommend the best solution.
- Knowledge of mobile accessibility best practices on Android and iOS.
