General Stevedoring Duties
The Foreman will allocate sufficient Stevedores to carry out all work required to deal efficiently with the requirements of the day. This may include the following tasks:
Washing of Quays
Moving of cargoes
Shoveling and trimming
Loading and unloading of vessels
Working at height
Working in ships holds and on deck
The role of the Stevedore is to carry out all the above tasks safely and efficiently as directed by the foreman
Roping Operations
The shift foreman will allocate sufficient trained Stevedores to carry out the roping operations in a safe and effective manner.
Linkspan Operators
The shift foreman will allocate sufficient trained Stevedores to carry out the Linkspan operations in a safe and effective manner. The role of the linkspan operator is to ensure that there is always a safe link between the ship and the shore.
General Stevedoring Duties
The Shift Foreman will allocate sufficient Stevedores to carry out any ancillary work (e.g. overweight's, Customs Examinations, Agents Requests, winding up trailer legs and assisting with the baggage etc.) to deal efficiently with the requirements of the day.
Container Handling Equipment
The port operates various container handling equipment these are to be operated by employees who hold the appropriate class of certificate of competency. The role of the operator is to assist in the loading and unloading and distribution of containers, which are then handled by the quayside cranes.
Tugmaster Drivers
The Foreman will allocate Stevedores to drive Tugmaster's in sufficient numbers so as to ensure the tasks are carried out effectively.
Tugmaster drivers will ensure that, so far as is reasonably practical, all traller legs are wound up before trailers are moved within the dock estate. You will ensure that the corect amount of airlines is connected. When a MAFFI trailer is used it is to be connected to the gooseneck in accordance with training given.
Forklift Driver
All forklift trucks will only be operated by employees who hold the appropriate class of certificate of competency. The role of the forklift driver is to assist in the loading and unloading and distribution of cargoes.
Crane Operators
All cranes will only be operated by employees who hold the appropriate class of certificate of competency. The crane operator is to assist in the loading and unloading of ships and any other crane duties as may be required.
Slinger Banksman
The correct number of Singer/Banksmen will be allocated to catch task as directed by the foreman This will include preparing the cargo to be lifted by crane and landed safely to the point of destination. Singer/Banksmen are to ensure that the correct equipment is used
Bobcat Driver
All bobcat drivers will only be operated by employees who hold the appropriate class of certificate of competency. The role of the bobcat operator is to assist in the loading and unloading and distribution of cargoes which are then handled by the quayside cranes.
Shovel Loader Driver
All shovel loaders will only be operated by employees who hold the appropriate class of certificate of competency. The role of the shovel loader operator is to assist in the loading and unloading and distribution of cargoes which are then handled by the quayside cranes
