Flagship Lab Services is seeking a Building Engineer with expertise in Greenhouse Operations to join our dynamic and growing division in Durham, NC. Engineer should have knowledge of and be able to operate environmental control equipment, maintain greenhouse facility, including installation, maintenance, and repair of special equipment.
As a representative for our company, you will be responsible for assisting with troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs on buildings which includes general maintenance, repair, HVAC, and electrical. The client’s portfolio is in the Raleigh Durham area which is home to the largest concentration of diverse research, Life Sciences, and educational institutions. The successful candidate will be able to operate in a dynamic and fast paced environment while regular interfacing with key client contacts. Essential Functions:
- Performs general building maintenance without supervision.
- Assists in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of pumps, valves, pneumatic controls, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic devices.
- Ability to operate ARGUS and PRIVA control systems.
- Lights and ballast replacements.
- Trouble shoot plumbing issues and repair problems.
- Work with cubes and furniture moves.
- Perform HVAC repairs and Greenhouse Operations and Systems
- Assist with installation and modification of building equipment systems.
- Troubleshoot, evaluate and make recommendations to upgrade maintenance operations and/or implement savings opportunities.
- Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility maintenance.
- Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer concerns.
- Inspect electrical distribution systems for safety and efficiency.
- Assist in maintaining and operating life safety/fire systems.
- Practice safe work habits at all times
- Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives as related to building operations and practice safe work habits.
- Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
Knowledge and Skills
- Technical, vocational or on-the-job training in electrical and HVAC or any similar combination of experience and education.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record with periodic checks.
- HVAC PLUS++ experience.
- Background checks will be required.
- Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in maintenance work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and is a team player.
- Ability to communicate effectively
- May be only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work and/or on call duties.
Education and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- 3-10 years of experience in commercial facilities maintenance and building maintenance.
- Knowledge of ARGUS and PRIVA Control Systems

- Small-to-large work environment.
- Safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection required while performing certain tasks.
- Fast paced work environment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments.
- Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
