Position Summary
The Lead Building Engineer is responsible for the operational, maintenance, and repair activities of all building systems and equipment. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. The Lead Building Engineer will lead a team of engineers and technicians, coordinate with contractors, and work closely with property management to maintain the integrity and efficiency of our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire/life safety systems.
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of building engineers and maintenance technicians.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure systems are operating efficiently and in compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of building systems and equipment.
- Respond promptly to tenant service requests and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance and repair work.
- Manage the building automation system (BAS) to monitor and control building systems.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance.
- Assist in the development of the annual budget for building operations and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
- Participate in emergency response planning and execution.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in building engineering or facilities maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Proficiency with building automation systems (BAS) and other relevant technology.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Availability to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
- Certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or similar are a plus.
