Summary of Job
The production Lead leads the day to day activities on the floor to ensure the floor is kept in a safe & clean condition, Operators have adequate materials and supplies, product is flowing smoothly to and from each process, and daily targets are met. Ensures 5S standards are being met throughout the department; become the 5S champion for the group. Drives safety, quality, continuous improvement, associate development, team engagement, and operating results for their assigned area. Responsible for training team members, setting daily resource strategy, and monitoring progress towards team goals. This Lead will implement and enforce established Safety and Quality policy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The right candidate will lead their job with a strong safety mindset including but not limited to:
- Is a resource for team members; escalates any issues or processes disruptions to maximize productivity in the department.
- Coaches Operators in best practices to drive a safe and productive culture and to improve employee engagement.
- Assists the Supervisor with driving safety throughout the production floor. Instills “safety first” mindset within group.
- Trains, coaches, and holds employees accountable for maintaining area standards such as 5S, following standardized work to takt and observing waste & risks.
- Regularly provides specific feedback, coaching, and guidance that feature positive reinforcement for good work.
- Identifies opportunities for coaching every day including tier review, kaizen activities and Gemba walks that include metric/visual management review.
- Is a problem solver on the floor following Root Cause Corrective Action methodologies.
- Performs production duties and fill-in as required to cover for absenteeism and vacation.
- Drives 5S principles and support all continuous improvement activities within area of responsibility.
- Maintains process parameters and appropriate records. Troubleshoot process and equipment; make minor equipment adjustments as needed.
- Ensures an effective Shift Handoff that supports housekeeping, productivity, and critical information pass-down.
- Owns the daily schedule and manage resources to produce required results.
- Within SAP, confirm production orders and resolve COGI (inventory) errors; escalate unresolved to supervisor and inventory manager.
- Metric Boards – make sure are filled out and up to date; escalate repeat disruptors.
- Coordinates with Material Handlers and Clamp Drivers on raw material replenishment and finished goods staging and put-away
- Drives daily TPM efforts with operators and maintenance.
- Escalates issues in a timely and appropriate manner with relevant background information and fact.
- Is able to schedule time efficiently to accomplish assigned tasks and spend sufficient time directly engaging with the team.
- Demonstrates adherence to leadership standardized work (LSW) and consistently reviews and amends LSW to reflect current conditions and task focus
- Assigns team members based on production need and attendance at the on-set of each shift. Impress upon team a sense of urgency to reach and maintain productivity and quality targets.

- Exposure to lean tools such as 5S, Root Cause/Corrective Actions, Standardized Work, KPI’s, Daily Management System (Visual).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and drive accountability within team.
- Aptitude for math, problem-solving, computers, and mechanics.
- Attention to detail and good color vision.
- Ability to work and communicate well with others.
- Ability to map the basic production processes and associated risks.

Position Type
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED; required.
- Associate degree; preferred.
- 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to mechanical machinery.
- Lean 6 sigma trained.
