Job Description
This role is to build out the field operations team at Quaise Energy for developing geothermal power. Initially, the field operations team will be focused on assisting the engineering team with lab testing, setting up field test sites, developing field procedures, running field trials, and providing feedback to the engineering team to improve field operations. The field trial will consist of working with engineering prototype equipment and then expanding to full geothermal field development that will include conventional and millimeter wave drilling, completion, and production activities. Quaise is seeking an energetic and experienced Field Engineer with a wide range of expertise and knowledge to lead field trial activities. In addition to field experience, having technical expertise to help find solutions is extremely valuable, as there will be technical problems to solve in the field.
Essential functions
- Pre-Field Trial (6-9 months)
- Regular office hours M-F
- Learn about the technology
- Assist setting up two different lab experiments
- Assist running lab drilling experiments
- Assist with field planning and site development
- Develop field procedures
- Engage and work with third parties to drill, case, and cement pilot holes
- Prepare load out lists and liaise with logistics company to ensure efficient and cost-effective equipment movements
- Plan, design, and execute the SITs (System Integration Tests) required for any drilling / interventions components with the supports from both internal engineering team and external third-party vendors
- Field Trial (12-18 month)
- 10-4 Rotation – 12-hour days
- Ensure safe and efficient field operations
- Lead risk assessment before each field operation
- Assemble and test equipment prior running job
- Maintain field operations records
- Troubleshoot issues and perform root cause analysis as needed
- Propose creative solutions as issues arise
- Work closely with internal engineering team to optimize the drilling performance
- Provide technical feedback to internal engineering team to improve the safety and performance of the millimeter wave drilling system after each field trial
- Ensure all third-party equipment meet the requirements of the planned operation
- Plan, design, and execute the SITs (System Integration Tests) required for any drilling / interventions components with the supports from both internal engineering team and external third-party vendors
- Assure adequate third-party Quality Assurance and Quality Control of any equipment for the field trials
- Operates as a one-person crew supervising third party service company personnel
- Operate as a team of 4 for the field trail test campaign
- Record all non-conformances and non-production time and report these to management
- Ensure that all work within the area of responsibility is adequately documented and lessons learned are captured for the benefit of future operations
- Prepare end of well reports
- Collaborate with other members of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver each field trial efficiently
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- IADC RigPass Certification or equivalent training desired

- Familiarity with a startup or high growth environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficient with Microsoft Project or other project planning software

Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in the field of Electrical, Mechanical, or Petroleum Engineering or equivalent
- 4+ years of Oil and Gas Field Experience, drilling experience preferred
Physical requirements
- The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, as well as use hands to feel, reach, grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools and/or controls
- The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer, or move items up 20 pounds at times for departmental needs
- Ability to move from one worksite to another or travel to various job sites and locations to complete tasks
- The vision requirement includes reviewing written and electronic materials in digital and physical format
- The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships
