As a Software Development Engineer 2 on our team, you will work closely with Product, Program, and Engineering to design and implement the solution that delights our customers.
An Engineer II is part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies scientific, mathematical, and social principles to design, build, and maintain technology products, devices, systems, and solutions. These technology products and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of the business. The scope, responsibility and accountability at this level supports infrastructure and operational components, applications, services with minimal supervision.
A day in the life…
- Actively participate in a full-stack team prepared to meet evolving customer needs
- Design, implement and collaborate with local and partner teams
- Test all scenarios and conform to quality standards
- Identify performance issues; apply knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals (e.g., cross-site scripting, security certificates)
- Analyze technology to identify and proactively pay down technical debt in key areas
- Embrace the DevOps model by owning the end-to-end technology and infrastructure
- stack and be willing to support the solutions in production be participating in on-call rotation.
- Ensure the application/system health, striving for minimal defects and downtime
- Anticipate and remove blockers that are impeding the team’s success
- Advocate for data driven decision making, so we prioritize the right work
- Mentor more junior engineers, recognizing strengths and opportunities
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of information technology concepts, issues, trends, and best practices as they relate to the discipline/practice
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of specific needs of a major line of business and the related set of applications, systems, or functions
We’d love it if you have…
- 3+ years of professional experience building, deploying, and supporting React based UI and backend services
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS, Engineering or equivalent practical experience
SKILLS:
- Prior experience designing and implementing RESTFul java services (required)
- Frontend tech - React (preferred), Java script HTML, CSS etc
- Backend language/frameworks – Java, Springboot, Spring framework, NodeJS
- Databases management systems - Mongodb, DynamoDB etc
- Unit testing frameworks – junit, mokito etc (required)
- Web automation testing tools like Cypress (preferred)
- Load testing using Jmeter etc. (preferred)
- Data Streaming/Eventing services - Kafka (preferred), Kinesis
- Cloud platforms – AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure
- CI/CD (Gitlab CI, GoCD, Azure Pipelines, etc.)
