Overview: Join a pioneering project team dedicated to designing and constructing a state-of-the-art waste treatment and immobilization plant. Our project aims to transform hazardous waste into a form that is safe for disposal, contributing significantly to environmental protection and community safety.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems for fluid and gas handling within the waste treatment process.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including studies, design calculations, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure designs meet nuclear safety and operational requirements.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated system solutions.
- Manage technical challenges and provide solutions that adhere to regulatory compliance and quality standards.
- Participate in safety analyses and hazard evaluations.
- Oversee the implementation of designs, ensuring adherence to plans and specifications through the commissioning phase.
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum of 9 years of related experience, including experience with Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID) and system design.
- Familiarity with quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry and regulatory standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME AG-1).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for site access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional engineering registration.
- Experience in the design of fluid systems for DOE or commercial nuclear facilities.
Technical Screening Questions:
- Can you describe a complex mechanical system design project you led? What were the key challenges, and how did you address them?
- How do you ensure compliance with nuclear safety and environmental regulations during the design process?
- What experience do you have with developing P&IDs and equipment specifications for high-risk or heavily regulated environments?
- Describe your experience with quality assurance programs. Which standards are you most familiar with, and how have you implemented them in past projects?
- How do you manage cross-disciplinary coordination in a project setting to ensure that mechanical designs integrate well with other systems?
- Explain a scenario where you had to troubleshoot a significant issue during the commissioning phase of a project. What steps did you take to resolve it?
- What software tools do you use for mechanical design and analysis, and how proficient are you with them?
- Have you ever managed a project where you had to adapt the design due to unexpected changes or challenges? How did you handle it?
