A chemicals/manufacturing client is looking for an EPC Project Scheduler that is responsible for planning, scheduling, and progress reporting in support of proposals and projects.
LOCATION: Houston, TX 77024
POSITION: EPC Project Scheduler
CONTRACT: 6 months or longer
PAY RATE: $45-$61/hr., depending on experience
SHIFT: 1st shift, Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
JOB SUMMARY:
- The Project Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, and progress reporting in support of proposals and projects. Duties will typically be performed within an office setting during the Proposal and Engineering phases and then onsite during Construction and Commissioning.
- On-site work is planned in the near future and, therefore, a requirement for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
- Provide necessary information for establishing time objectives to meet project requirements
- Coordinate client, engineering, and operations interfaces to ensure smooth and timely flow of information
- Provide project management with information pertinent to the control of the project
Basics:
- Develop, maintain, and communicate the project time schedule
- Use the project time schedule to drive the execution and timely completion of the project
- Work by scheduling procedures and requirements
- Capture REX (Return of Experience) to promote continuous improvement
- Contribute actively to the knowledge exchange within the Scheduling Team
Proposal Phase:
- Participate in the execution strategy and develop the frame schedule
- Challenge the duration and sequence of development / constructability
- Prepare the Basis of Schedule, including clear and specific assumptions
- Prepare the Project Schedule Execution Plan
- Utilize REX analysis and knowledge for support during the client negotiation phase
Project Baseline:
- Establish, maintain, and follow up plans and progress by internal procedures
- Develop baseline progress schedule using existing templates and/or reference projects
- Revise and/or assign activity codes & WBS structure for baseline progress schedule
- Revise and/or develop required layouts for the baseline progress schedule
- Revise and/or assign resources for the baseline progress schedule
- Revise and/or load manhours, quantities, and cost into baseline progress schedule
- Develop baseline progress curves using both early and late finish dates
- Develop progress measurement tables for tracking deliverables &/or quantities installed
- Prepare SMART presentations to discuss, summarize, and validate the planning assumptions and basis
Project Execution:
- Collect progress status from client, engineering, operations, suppliers, and third party entities
- Assist the technical team with internal schedules to control and monitor key tasks.
- Prepare forecast schedules based on actual project status and anticipated evolution
- Track the internal and external milestones versus the contract, target, and previous forecast
- Update progress curves using both earned and remaining (forecast) values
- Analyze critical path(s), schedule variances, progress trends, and resource allocation
- Develop and implement solutions / mitigation strategies for identified critical scenarios / problems
- Communicate status and analysis to project team via schedule layouts, written narrative, and briefings
- Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly reports
- Keep a record of changes to the schedules via backup copy and “Maintain Baseline” function in P6
- Update the Bases of Schedule, including mitigation actions taken in the monthly update
Construction:
- Assist the site manager and subcontractor manager with planning
- Perform quantity takeoffs
- Confirm local rates of production for determination of budget manhours & schedule duration
- Refine standard Schedule Specification for each ITB (Invitation to Bid)
- Review subcontractor schedules for adherence to project specifications and need dates
- Understand and challenge the subcontractors' plans before implementation into the main schedule
- Import subcontractor schedules into the master progress schedule and make necessary logic ties
- Walk jobsite and evaluate physical progress
- Review accuracy of subcontractor schedule updates and adherence to their initial plan
- Analyze subcontractor claims for delay and associated mitigation / recovery plans
- Incorporate contract changes into the master progress schedule
- Prepare schedules as requested or by anticipation, proposing scenarios and what-if simulations
- Backup all Planning related as-builts and Lessons Learned to ensure benchmark and handover
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in EPC project scheduling
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of full-time jobsite scheduling
- Ability to plan Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning
- Ability to read and understand Plot Plans, PFDs, P&IDs, One-Line Diagrams
- Flexible with regards to travel (subject to individual project needs)
- Proficient with Primavera P6 scheduling software, including multi-file group projects
- Experience with Physical Progress and Earned Value measurement systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation delivery to large / small groups
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to plan Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning
- Ability to read and understand Plot Plans, PFDs, P&IDs, One-Line Diagrams
- Flexible with regards to travel (subject to individual project needs)
- Proficient with Primavera P6 scheduling software, including multi-file group projects
- Experience with Physical Progress and Earned Value measurement systems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to balance strategic (big picture) thinking with tactical application (detail oriented)
- Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with competing priorities
- Ability to meet deadlines and fulfill customer requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation delivery to large / small groups
- Strong business partnering skills to lead, influence, and drive behavior change without formal authority
