Job Summary:
Messer owns and operates a large portfolio of industrial gas plants, including ASU, CO2, H2, He plants, serving customers within a wide range of industries. Gas Analysis infrastructure is a key component required for operation and quality assurance of these industrial gas plants and products. This position will report thru the National Reliability team, supporting various business, plant operations, project execution, and reliability teams. The key deliverable of this role is providing technical engineering support and SME recommendations for all analytical equipment and systems.

Principle Responsibilities:
- Supports Operations of all of Messer’s North America operational business units in achieving positive outcomes in safety, reliability, efficiency, cost, and customer service.
- Provides technical support for analytical equipment and analytical systems at all Messer locations in North America including escalated high-level troubleshooting, coordinating repair, and managing contractors surrounding analytical equipment/systems.
- Provides subject matter expertise on gas analyzers with provision of technical guidance in analytical equipment & systems during HAZOP’s, P&ID Reviews & Risk Reviews.
- Be familiar with different analyzer types, sensors, technologies including an intimate working knowledge of analyzers including Gas Chromatographs.
- Design and engineer analytical systems at new installations and existing Messer plants including upgrades and major outages.
- Oversees installation, commissioning, and functional checks of new analytical equipment & systems. Ensures systems are fit for purpose and validated as necessary.
- Specify new analytical equipment and analytical systems.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards & practices surrounding analytical equipment & systems including International Society of Automation (ISA) standards/guidelines, and International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT) guidelines.
- Write standards and policies surrounding analytical equipment and analytical systems.
- Seek, test, and evaluate new analytical technologies to provide technical advantages over current practices to increase/improve reliability.
- Manage analyzer and analytical system sparing strategy including budgeting, specifying, purchasing, and location stores.
- Manage analyzer upgrades including strategy, budgeting, specifying, purchasing, installation, etc
- Conduct studies surrounding analytical equipment and systems to promote new business and maintain existing business/customers for all divisions/Groups.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline required.
- 10 years of experience with at least 5 years in an operational and engineering environment.
- Possesses strong communications skills and able to communicate to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrated exceptional operational safety leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through to completion on projects and solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and improve existing processes/programs.
- Expertise in Analytical methods and equipment selection for both process control and product quality assurance in industrial gas applications
- Expertise in Analytical system design and integration including sampling, calibration, control automation, and data acquisition.
- Proven experience in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of analyzers and analytical systems.
- General expertise in instrumentation, controls and networking preferred.
- Proven experience in Root Cause Analysis, Cause and Effect or FMEA methodologies
- Proven understanding of regulatory and industry standards and codes
- Air Separation experience and knowledge preferred.
- Experience with CMMS systems required, SAP PM preferred.
