Job Description:
MEI has a job opportunity for an experienced Substation Project Manager to be an integral member of our design team. The scope of this role entails management of multiple substation projects and utility company coordination. The projects this role will oversee include substations with high/medium voltage electrical distribution for multiple data center campuses exceeding 1000MW overall capacity. This role will be highly collaborative amongst MEI staff, clients, utility companies, vendors, and external disciplines and will be responsible for facilitating effective communication between all stakeholders to ensure project completion.
Job Duties:
- Act as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, providing regular project updates, managing design schedules, addressing concerns, and ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Support client, design team and construction team throughout all project phases (both new construction and upgrades/retrofits).
- Assist in the design process, review and understand customer design requirements working to ensure all requirements are discussed and met.
- Coordinate and lead recurring project meetings, including status meetings and stakeholder meetings, ensuring effective communication and documentation of discussions, decisions, and action items.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of project plans and schedules, tracking project progress, and ensuring adherence to timelines.
- Identify and escalate project risks and issues, proactively addressing any challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Work amongst a cross-discipline design team, owners, and contractors to develop drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with external vendors, internal design teams and manufacturers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in project management, with a background in Substation Engineering Design for Data Centers is preferred.
- Ability to lead meetings effectively, ensuring clear communication and documentation of discussions, decisions, and action items.
- Experience working independently, managing priorities and providing mentorship to junior staff.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes.
- Ability to think strategically and demonstrate flexibility in order to achieve long-range objectives.
- Self-motivated, comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to work as a team and lead others.
- Top-notch organization, attention to detail combined with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM and Revit.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid P.E License
- Valid PMP Certification
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with high/medium voltage power distribution, physical design, transmission line design, etc. preferred
