We are seeking a Network Engineer who is well-organized, self-directed & self-starting while being able to work well in an open team environment. This role will provide technical support to REI’s data communications network infrastructure by aligning with the company's strategic goals to ensure scalability and robustness. Although this position may have no direct reports, you may serve as a mentor for others in the department. Occasional visits to alternate work sites, on-call rotation as needed and working Monday-Friday are essential.
Position Summary
You will play an essential role of designing, implementing, and maintaining a highly secured network by installing, upgrading, and maintaining network routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, traffic shaping, wireless, and other network devices. Having the responsibility of communicating with other departments to provide secure segmented network(s) for development and R&D efforts. You will collaborate with IT security to align network infrastructure with the latest cybersecurity frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Plans designs, analyzes, implements, upgrades, and provides technical support for data communication networks.
- Assisting with project budgets for hardware purchases or software subscriptions to create effective cost management and resource allocation.
- Assisting with implementation of firewall policies, following secure and best practice standards in a complex, high-scale enterprise network security environment.
- Participate in security alerting, detection and monitoring by threat research and investigation.
- Assist with endpoint security incidents, reviewing and implementing new firewall policy requests.
- Maximizes network performance by monitoring, troubleshooting network problems, outrages, and scheduling upgrades.
- Report network operational status by gathering prioritizing information and managing projects.
- Implements network configurations to ensure the continued stability and growth of the company network infrastructure.
- Configures and manages access points, routers, firewalls, and switches for the company infrastructure and products.
- Research and evaluate network technology and recommend purchases of network equipment or software to achieve desired outcome.
- Create and maintain network diagrams and update all network documentation.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of subnetting, routing, IPv4 NAT, TCP/IP, BGP, SD-WAN, VPN, QoS, and 802.1x standards
- Strong knowledge of network management, analysis, and penetration testing tools
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows system administration for DNS, DHCP, Windows Firewall, RADIUS. (Linux, VMware ESXi, and Azure Firewall understanding preferred)
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task with efficiency while maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must possess a mentor mentality to demonstrate and teach peers essential job functions to maintain continuity
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience required
- Active Directory management experience required.
- Experience with Fortinet, Cisco, and Ubiquity UniFi hardware including routing and firewall installation, configuration, administration, FortiAnalyzer, Fortinet EMS and reporting is required. (NSE4 or higher preferred)
- 2+ years of networking infrastructure or experience in a Corporate IT environment with emphasis on Cyber Security preferred. (CompTIA Security+, Network+, A+ preferred)
- Experience in a help desk environment, supporting internal customers and occasionally external customers.
- Experience with Wireshark packet capture and analysis, SQL scripting (junior level).
- Successful completion of background check
