Description:
General Responsibilities: The Tool & Die Repair Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all dies on the plant floor. This role ensures that all dies are in proper working condition to maintain production efficiency and quality.
Specific Duties:
- Complete paperwork for die books, tool biographies, and ensure stock replenishments.
- Update and optimize CAD data and die books to enhance future die designs.
- Maintain inventory and organization of die sensor tools and components.
- Document hours and work activities daily in PLEX.
- Prioritize and organize die repairs, work orders, and tooling information.
- Create die changeover instructions and ensure documentation is up-to-date and properly stored.
- Perform maintenance and upkeep of production tooling to ensure quality stampings and compliance with customer standards.
- Read blueprints, sketches, and CAD data to determine materials and methods for die fabrication.
- Assemble, set, and adjust die components to meet specifications and tolerances.
- Operate machine tools to spot, grind, and finish components, and install sensors and sprayer components.
- Repair dies by replacing damaged tooling, sharpening components, welding, and more.
- Troubleshoot automatic and hand-feed tooling and set-ups in-press.
- Use PLEX and other tools to problem-solve needed die changes.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and waste reduction efforts.
- Maintain efficiency and organization of the personal work area.
- Support and adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an Associate's Degree in Tooling & Manufacturing or a related program, or a college-based/apprenticeship-based Tool & Die Technician program or certificate.
Experience:
- Experience in the tool & die trade, specifically in making, repairing, setting up, troubleshooting, and running dies.
- Proven ability to work with progressive, transfer, and hand-feed dies.
- Skilled in machine shop and machining operations, including welding.
- Proven ability to manage projects and document tooling issues effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds periodically.
Skills:
- Mechanical inclination, general math and manufacturing knowledge, and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to train and mentor other Die Technician trainees in a team environment.
