Title of Position: Superintendent
Location: Domiciled in Detroit, MI; Travel focused
Compensation: $100,000-$115,000 base salary annually

The Superintendent reports to the VP of Project Management and is responsible for on-site operations, coordination of subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards on commercial / industrial projects happening nationwide.

What does the Superintendent do?
Planning: Collaborating with management and subcontractors to determine project needs, setting goals, setting deadlines, and managing all aspects of the construction project on-site.
Estimating: Tracking costs to ensure the project stays on budget
Procurement: Ordering equipment and supplies, and keeping track of material stock and orders
Safety: Implementing safety and quality guidelines, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring the job site is safe, clean, and orderly
Supervision: Managing the construction workers, supervising subcontractors and subordinate staff, and providing constructive feedback
Communication: Maintaining effective communication with project stakeholders, including resolution of any issues of conflicts that arise on-site
Progress: Monitoring and reporting on project progress, preparing progress reports, and issuing look-ahead schedules to management
Compliance: Ensuring compliance with building codes, safety regulations and project specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in a construction related field or equivalent professional training and experience
- 4-6 years knowledge of commercial or industrial construction estimating, engineering, design, or management required
- Ability to travel throughout the United States (40%-60%)
- CPR, First Aid, OSHA-30 trained, Certified Storm Water Operator preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, means and methods
- Must be a business-oriented professional, with excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and construction documents
- Must be a good communicator, with strong problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of WINDOWS (basic applications), Microsoft Office Suite, Computer Automated Design (CAD) and scheduling software systems
- Extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, familiarity with permitting, and subcontractor relationships
- Strong track record of accomplishments within commercial and industrial construction sector
Working Conditions:
Able to work extended hours as needed – 50+ hours
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with subcontractors, construction workers, inspectors, regulators, and colleagues as well as function safely within an office environment, in addition to regularly visiting construction site operations.
