The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems engineering organization is seeking a Director 1 Avionics Integration – West to lead a diverse team of approximately 350 engineers supporting the Rancho Bernardo, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, and Palmdale, California sites. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Avionics Integration and will be a key member of the Avionics Integration leadership team. Position may be located in Rancho Bernardo (San Diego), CA or Palmdale, CA.
The Avionics Integration team is responsible for product development oversight and integration in the following areas: electronics design and fabrication, assembly and test; ground electronics, communications and mission payloads, antennas, lasers and sensors, weapons payloads. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the disciplines that comprise the team by championing diversity, equity and inclusion to foster a high-performing, motivated and engaged culture, and managing the processes and tools used by Avionics Integration to ensure the engineers are trained, equipped, and empowered to support AS programs and captures, and NCTA as well as other efforts. You will also be responsible for establishing the vision and strategy for the Avionics Integration - West organization and collaborating broadly up and across both AS engineering leadership and the Enterprise in pursuit of collective business objectives.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership, shaping the Avionics Integration - West strategic vision and direction, as well as providing oversight of all major functions within the organization
- Leading successful execution of Avionics Integration work scope on all efforts, and as part of this successful execution partnering with programs and captures to collect meaningful metrics and collaborate to use those metrics to improve processes and tools that will result in improved affordability and quality
- Identify organizational risk and plans to manage the risk. Address performance shortfalls through root cause and corrective action assessments and develop containment and long-term corrective action plans that include long-term verification of successful improvement and sharing of lessons learned across the engineering organization
- Leading the effort to fulfill staffing requirements and maintain the Avionics Integration staffing levels as needed to support our programs and captures in collaboration with the broader engineering organization and talent acquisition
- Develop initiatives and collaborate with the broader engineering organization, TA/HR to reduce attrition
- Define training plans for both existing and incoming employees in collaboration with the Aeronautics Systems Engineering Technical Development Organization, and overall foster a culture of learning that includes active mentoring and knowledge sharing within the organization
- Drive improved employee engagement and appreciation through verbal, written, and tangible recognition, events, and personal interactions
- Oversee program/project reviews, independent technical reviews, program stand-up reviews, NCTA and indirect activities, process improvement plans, proposal review and signoff, and capital planning and management
- Affordably develop and manage the organizational budget including the NCTA, indirect, and allocation plans
- Act as a contributor to the Avionics Integration Technical Disciplines, contributing to individual Technical Discipline and sub-Technical Discipline strategies, training and development requirements, and process and tools management plans and budgets
- Equitably manage the yearly cycles for promotions, merits, and bonuses that affordably balances the experience base across the organization, and achieves retention objectives

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline and 10 years of related professional/military experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry; OR Master of Science in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry
- Minimum 6 years of engineering leadership/management experience in an integrated product team environment
- Experience as a program manager or functional manager of large (>50 person) teams
- Must have an active Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
