Step into a transformative leadership role as the Hospital Chief Medical Officer (HCMO) at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center, where your expertise will drive clinical excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care. Reporting directly to the System Chief Medical Officer and collaborating closely with the Hospital President, you’ll have a strategic partnership with the Hospital President and Chief Nursing Officer working as a triad to shape the future of our medical center.
In this influential position, you’ll champion high-quality, safe care while steering the strategic growth and operational success of Mt. Hood Medical Center. Your role will be central in enhancing patient experiences and outcomes, working seamlessly with clinical service lines, medical staff, and operational leaders. You’ll apply lean principles and cutting-edge process improvement strategies to elevate quality and safety standards, and to drive impactful physician and provider initiatives.
You will lead efforts to optimize our multidisciplinary team structure and foster a dynamic culture of excellence, safety, and integrity among our physicians and advanced practice providers. Your leadership will inspire and develop talent while contributing to the broader Legacy Health system, integrating quality and clinical initiatives across the organization.

ResponsibilitiesAs the Hospital Chief Medical Officer (HCMO), you will blend clinical practice with strategic leadership to drive continuous improvement at our medical center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance Care Standards: Promote clinical excellence to help Legacy Health become the safest place for care.
- Lead Change: Champion initiatives to exceed benchmarks in quality, safety, financial health, patient experience, employee engagement, and organizational development.
- Drive Improvement: Apply continuous improvement principles to refine organizational structures and advance provider support.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the Hospital President and CNO to integrate systems thinking into strategic planning and ensure operational consistency.
- Boost Patient Value: Collaborate with hospital leadership to enhance patient-centered care and oversee high-value care initiatives.
- Promote DEI: Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment within the organization.
- Develop Talent: Strengthen provider talent and medical center culture through collaboration in organization development.
- Build Community Partnerships: Enhance Legacy’s network and contribute to market strategy through strong community relationships.
- Guide Information Systems: Provide insights on information systems and initiatives to improve care management.
- Encourage Teamwork: Foster effective triad relationships among providers, nurses, and administrative leaders.
- Support Accountability: Create an accountable structure with the site medical executive committee to achieve system goals.
- Optimize Resources: Collaborate on the allocation of capital and human resources to meet patient needs and evolving care models.
- Cultivate Trust: Promote a culture of trust and psychological safety.
- Develop Leaders: Support the growth of physician and provider leaders through development and succession planning.
- Manage Teams: Oversee employed and/or contracted physician leaders.
- Additional Duties: Embrace other responsibilities as needed.
QualificationsThe Ideal Candidate:
- Qualifications: M.D. or D.O. with board certification, and eligibility for state licensure within six months. Seven years of active medical practice required; a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related field is a plus.
- Healthcare Administration Knowledge: Eager to learn about clinical operations, finance, physician relations, IT, and strategic planning.
- Exceptional Communicator: Proven ability to engage and build relationships with various stakeholders.
- Collaborative Leader: Supports and enriches multidisciplinary teams with a collaborative approach.
- Influential Change Leader: Recognized for your ability to champion change and foster teamwork.
- Process Improvement Experience: Familiarity with process improvement methodologies like lean is preferred.
- Innovative and Resilient: Demonstrates courage and innovation, inspiring others through challenges.
- Senior Leadership Experience: Previous experience as a Chief Medical Officer or similar role is preferred but not required.
