IT Technical Writer
We are seeking a talented technical professional with excellent communication and authoring skills to plan for, design, develop, and publish Technical Documentation, including but not limited to functional, design, and technical specifications, development coding standards and guides, API documents, architecture specifications, and diagrams.
The Technical Writer is a contract position for the IT Security team.
The work location is primarily remote with some onsite interactions.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources (such as product demonstrations, project tracking systems, interviews, emails, or phone calls) to document new or changing product functionality.
- Manage documentation projects effectively to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Proactively escalate project issues, roadblocks, and scope changes as they occur.
- Work with the company's subject matter experts (SMEs) and other internal groups to develop and maintain documentation that meets established company quality metrics.
- Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical users.
- Update existing procedural or technical documents as needed to improve organization/structure readability for technical audiences
- Provide editing support for all document types, as requested.
- Maintain a library of application documentation, cataloging it for internal and/or external use.
- Research changes to documentation and update existing documents as required.
- Solicit feedback for measuring documentation effectiveness.
- Perform peer reviews to ensure company documentation is accurate, relevant, concise, easy to use, and conforms to style guide, writing standards, and the company's quality metrics
Job Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in technical writing and editing for IT departments in the oil and gas industry
- Writing and editing: Communicate information effectively to customers, technical staff, managers, executives, sales and marketing teams.
- English language: Thorough knowledge of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and usage
- Technical communication standards and practices: Adhere to standard technical communication processes.
- Technical: Apply the most appropriate technology for the documentation type.
- Information gathering: Understand information gathering, analysis, design, verification, and management practices and apply them effectively. Demonstrate information-gathering techniques and apply them to the technical product life cycle.
- Information organization: Arrange and classify multiple pieces of information effectively.
- Synthesis/reorganization: Restructure information for a better approach to problems or tasks.
- Analytical: Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, and break down complex information into accessible concepts appropriate to the audience.
- Interviewing and questioning: Talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask probing questions to gather pertinent content.
- Active listening: Use active listening techniques to gather information and delve deeper for more information.
