Reporting to the shift supervisor, the CNC Laser Operator is responsible for executing cutting, drilling, welding, and ablation processes primarily through the operation of CNC laser equipment in a manufacturing environment. The position responsibilities contain the essential tasks below.
Essential Tasks
- General
- Adhere to required policies and procedures, both written and verbal.
- Adhere to safety protocols including the proper use of PPE.
- Document activity on control charts, travelers, quality logs, etc., and report labor in an ERP system.
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Detect and troubleshoot malfunctions with equipment and processes. Ask for the assistance of support personnel as needed.
- Perform any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization’s values.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Setup and Operation
- Inspect and clean laser optics.
- Follow machine alignment and calibration procedures.
- Install and uninstall fixtures into machines.
- Load and unload parts into fixtures.
- Set up ancillary equipment e.g., laser nozzles, gas flow meters, gas pressure regulators, etc.
- Select, load, and run CNC programs.
- Read and understand work instructions, blueprints, specifications, and travelers.
- Maintain a working knowledge of CNC principles, including G and M codes.
- Perform prep, wash, and deburr operations.
- Inspection
- Use measuring tools and equipment to verify conformance of finished workpieces to requirements.
- Read and interpret CMM data.
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the shift supervisor.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Laser experience - minimum 2 years required.
- Basic mechanical and mathematical skills as related to machining/manufacturing assignments
- Troubleshooting/critical thinking skills
- Manufacturing experience a plus
- Must be a United States Citizen, or an US Permanent Resident

Physical Requirements and Demand Levels
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, color perception, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 20/20 vision (corrected) required with ability to pass annual vision test as required
- Lift, push and/or pull 35 pounds.
- Oscillate between sitting, standing, and walking throughout scheduled shift
- Routinely reach, twist, bend, and grasp.
- Periodically operate an overhead crane.
- Perform under AS9100 standards.
