The Visual Analytics Department with the Communications, Information and Navigation Office (CINO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is looking for motivated and talented Systems Engineer to provide expertise in the design and operation of infrastructure to support the operation and needs of systems and applications, provide strategy to design and build infrastructure plans based on business requirements, and oversee the implementation of new system technologies.
Your working location will be fully on-site in Key West, FL.
You will:
Administration of various operating system distributions and applications
Ensure systems and software are patched, secured, and updated
Develop processes and practices for design, maintenance, and secure operation of systems in compliance with US government standards
Develop prototypes of appropriate infrastructure, hardware, and associated systems
Collaborate with unit leaders and stakeholders to analyze business needs to define an architectural strategy
Provide functional knowledge of systems and manage end user relationships with system and technical teams
Conduct research on emerging technologies
Recommend new technology solutions or create solutions to existing systems to increase performance, efficiency, reliability, and security
Provide project leadership and management for new or existing systems, upgrades, and maintenance
Serve as technical liaison with other departments and organizations to implement, integrate, review, and evaluate technologies and services
Interface with University, national, and/or international organizations to resolve service-related issues
Participate in the development, testing, and implementation of contingency plans
Research, establish, and maintain architectural processes and documentation and enforce the standards, policies, and procedures
Lead and provide technical guidance to staff and teams
Develop training program for other staff
This position can be filled at multiple levels depending on education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors’ degree in an Engineering or Science Discipline plus 2 years’ related experience. Additional education and/or experience required for higher level positions.
Required experience/knowledge include:
Enterprise level administration of both Windows and Linux systems
Exposure to or experience operating within a DoD type environment; including knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements (800-171/53 and STIGs)
A current security related certification (Security+, CASP+, CySA+, or similar)
Experience implementing and maintaining a DevSecOps workflow
Preferred experience/knowledge includes:
VMware and ESXi
Linux & Windows administration
Automation of administration tasks with Apache NiFi and similar tools
Containerization technologies to include Docker and Podman
Active TS/SCI clearance
