About the role
We’re building our first-party Root App engineering team and looking for an exceptional web developer to code the extensions that we’ll ship with our v1 product. Our first-party Apps add new capabilities to the platform that enable productivity within communities and show the world what’s possible on Root.
This role will focus on implementing various first-party Root Apps using the Root APIs and UI Framework in partnership with the design and infrastructure teams. You’ll be the first user of the Root APIs and instrumental in shaping the direction to ensure its complete, correct, and easy to use for all developers.
Responsibilities
You’ll design and build the first-party Root Apps that we’ve identified as critical to meeting customer needs at launch.
- Develop the first and most visible Apps on the new Root platform
- Leverage and demonstrate the latest features of the platform
- Pioneer design patterns and best practices for Root Apps
- Give feedback on the APIs and the developer experience

Apps are complete and ready on time for product launch.
- Your Apps help make communities successful on Root; users love them
- Your Apps use best-practice architecture; third-party developers model their Apps on yours
- Your code is clean; third-party developers learn to code Root Apps from your work
- Your feedback is concise and actionable; the API team improves the experience for everyone
Qualifications
Five+ years of demonstrated experience as the architect and developer of high-user-count, consumer-facing Web Apps.
UI/UX skills
- Responsive UI using Web Components with React
- Multi-page UI with best-practice navigation
- Accessible design
- Multi-region localization
Domain logic skills
- Implement App logic and server communication using Typescript and Node
- Apply coding design pattern best practices
General skills
- Analytical skills to define a problem, identify solutions, and recommend a course of action
- Communication skills to educate others on how your projects are designed, implemented, and maintained
- Project management skills to keep stakeholders informed and deliver to a timeline
Beneficial skills
- Web frameworks such as Angular, Vue.js, or Next.js
- Web UI libraries such as MUI, Tailwind, or Bootstrap
- UI utility libraries such as Storybook
- Mongo
- C# .NET experience
