Position Summary:
Louis Plung & Company is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in state and local income and sales tax compliance and consulting, with the ability to navigate complex tax regulations and provide strategic tax planning advice. This role requires a high level of accuracy, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Experience Requirements:
5-8 years of experience in a similar role, with a focus on state and local income and sales tax compliance and consulting
Essential Technical Functions:
- Prepare and file state and local tax returns, including income, sales, use, property, and franchise taxes.
- Ensure compliance with state and local tax laws and regulations.
- Conduct research on state and local tax issues and stay updated on changes in tax laws.
- Interpret and apply tax laws to specific client situations.
- Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Advise clients on the tax implications of business decisions and transactions.
- Assist with state and local tax audits, including gathering documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Represent clients in discussions with tax authorities.
- Analyze financial statements and other financial data to determine tax liabilities.
- Prepare tax provisions and related financial disclosures.
- Use tax software and other technology tools to prepare and file tax returns.
- Maintain and update tax databases and systems.
- Communicate with clients to gather information and provide tax advice.
- Prepare and present reports on tax issues and solutions.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of tax filings and correspondence.
- Ensure proper documentation for all tax-related activities.
- Work with other departments and external advisors to ensure comprehensive tax planning and compliance.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of tax strategies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Participate in professional development and training to enhance technical skills
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent (required)
- Master's degree in accounting or equivalent (preferred)
· Current CPA or EA license is preferred. If not yet obtained, will need to agree to obtain within 18-24 months of start date
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of state and local tax laws and regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with CCH Access Tax Software (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
