Korn Ferry has partnered with our client for the search for their Director, Surgical Services based onsite in Chattanooga, TN. This role reports to the Vice President, Surgical Services. The hospital is a 750-bed, fully staffed Level I trauma center with 21 ORs.
The Director, Surgical Services has the responsibility of providing leadership for departmental strategic planning, marketing, operational initiatives, fiscal management and program development in both Surgery and Central Sterile Departments. Additionally, this nursing leader will ensure that all multi-disciplinary planning activities impacting patient care are coordinated and linked to the company’s mission and vision. The Director must possess a vision for quality service, operational efficiency, and the ability to engage others in that vision, as well as data-driven, strong financial and analytical abilities.
In collaboration with the Vice President, Surgical Services, the Director will work closely with management in the other areas of perioperative services to integrate and ensure high quality surgical patient care delivery. They are also critical to maintaining collaborative relationships among surgeons, anesthesiologists, trainees, and staff.
The Director of Surgical Services will have responsibility for around 160 FTEs and a non-staffing budget of approximately $45M.
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
The Director, Surgical Services will have proficiency of current practices and techniques in the perioperative specialty. They will possess the ability to demonstrate management and clinical nursing skills according to current hospital policies and procedures. Specific experience, skills, and attributes include:
- Previous leadership, management, or supervisory experience within a Surgery Department (required).
- Prior surgery director experience and/or management experience in a University Affiliated Healthcare facility and/or Level I Trauma Center is highly preferred.
- 5+ years of perioperative, surgical or relevant clinical experience (required).
- Experience with process improvement (Lean or Six Sigma preferred), staff and budget management, and relationship development with perioperative colleagues required.
- Must have strong analytical skills and be results-driven. Ability to communicate clearly and directly with other team members is essential.
Education and Licensure:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and BSN required.
- MSN, MS, or MBA preferred but not required.
- Active or eligibility for state of Tennessee RN license required.
- Current BLS certification required.
- CNOR and ACLS preferred.
