Background:
The Almaden materials development research program uses several IBM internally developed deposition tools (Mango, G-system and A-system) which all have been automated by internally developed code. Currently we rely on an IBM regular to provide necessary hardware automation support. Want to train someone to maintain, operate and debug all the custom hardware in Almaden Spintronics Lab. Final intent is to provide uninterrupted support to IBM-Samsung JDA.
Job Duties:
o Job Duty 1 – Maintain and develop of automation code of our laboratory tools, with one or more workstations communicating with and controlling an array of instruments and machine interfaces, and the HMIs (displays, user interfaces).
o Job Duty 2 – Maintain and debug laboratory tools and hardware such as turbo pumps, dry pumps, cryopumps, automation components, etc.
o Job Duty 3 – Ensure that lab workstations are compliant with IBM Corporate IT Security guidelines.
o Job Duty 4 – Debug and solve problems in a team environment.
Basic Skills, clearances and other elements required, in order of importance, and number of years’ experience, where applicable, in each skill:
• Masters/Bachelors degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in LabVIEW programming environment, MATLAB, Python and Beckhoff TwinCAT.
• Familiarity with spreadsheets and databases
• Understanding of electronic circuits and ability to debug them.
• Ability to diagnose failed automation hardware and laboratory tools.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Work location is San Jose, CA and work from home is not an option.
Other Skills Desired, Years in each skill, where applicable:
1) Fluency in English with strong verbal and written communication skills required.
2) Preferred: Experienced with vacuum systems.
3) Preferred: Experience with motion systems and mechanical design/fabrication.
