Position Description:
The Material Planning Manager will be responsible for planning and coordination of materials and inventory to support production schedules. The role involves forecasting material requirements, managing supplier relationships, optimizing inventory levels, and working closely with cross functional teams to ensure that materials are available when needed to meet production deadlines and customer demands. The Material Planning Manager will also analyze material usage, forecast future needs, and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Material Planning and Forecasting:
- Develop and implement material requirement planning (MRP) processes to ensure the timely availability of materials.
- Collaborate with supply planning to determine material needs based on the master production schedule.
- Forecast future material requirements based on historical data and demand forecasts.
- Assess and mitigate risks related to material shortages, supply chain disruptions, and demand variability.
- Develop contingency plans to manage unforeseen material supply issues.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor and optimize inventory levels to prevent shortages and reduce excess inventory.
- Implement inventory control strategies to manage raw and packaging materials.
Supplier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable material supply.
- Evaluate supplier performance and work with them to improve delivery times and reduce lead times.
Production Support:
- Coordinate with production teams to align material availability with production schedules.
- Identify and resolve material shortages or delays that could impact production timelines.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to address material-related issues.
- Participate in new product development and launches by ensuring materials are available for production.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze material usage, inventory levels, and supplier performance to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Prepare and present reports on material planning activities, inventory status, and supply chain performance.
- Use data to drive decisions on material procurement, inventory management, and process improvements.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material planning processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and trends in material planning and supply chain management.
Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of material planner(s).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP system and Excel.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
