Job Title: Engineering Manager
ATSC is seeking an Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading and managing a diverse team of systems, mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineers, ensuring the successful completion of engineering projects, and contributing to the overall technical strategy and goals of the organization. They are a bridge between the engineering team and upper management, focusing on both technical and managerial aspects.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
- Recruit, hire, and mentor engineering talent.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
- Allocate resources effectively and manage project budgets.
- Monitor project progress and address issues and risks.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Technical Expertise:
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to the team.
- Review and approve technical designs and solutions.
- Solve complex technical challenges and troubleshoot issues.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements and priorities.
- Ensure alignment between engineering and business objectives.
- Communicate technical updates and progress to non-technical stakeholders.
- Be the primary technical customer contact.
Process Improvement:
- Continuously improve engineering processes and methodologies.
- Implement best practices for software development, quality assurance, and project management.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and increase efficiency.
Resource Management:
- Manage engineering resources, including staffing, workload distribution, and performance management.
- Ensure the team has the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 5 to 8 years proven experience in engineering roles, with a strong technical background.
- 5 to 8 years’ experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Project management skills and familiarity with project management tools.
- Strong knowledge of Government funded contracts.
- Knowledge of Regulatory and Government Standards (MIL-STD-810, ISO, ASME, etc).
- Strong knowledge of product development from inception through production.
- Knowledge of relevant programming languages, technologies, and tools (depending on the engineering discipline).
- Knowledge of sensors (EO/IR cameras, Radars, etc).
- Ability to multitask, and track progress on multiple projects and programs.
- Ability to travel ~10% of the time.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiar with being a system level integrator.
- Preferred experience as a System/ Integration Engineer
- Knowledge of C5ISR products, sensors, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of Design For (DFx) best practices.
- Knowledge of communication systems (Radios, Microwave Communications, MANET).
- Basic knowledge of computer networking.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Work is typically performed in an office setting with occasional field work
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
- Must have the ability to lift 15-25 pounds
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Some travel may be required
