Vaco has partnered with a leading hospital in research and education in their search for a Director of Scientific Computing and Data Science. In this role you will facilitate impactful research and discovery activities in an academic health care setting by helping shape strategy and tactics that will allow the team to offer best-in-class research computing infrastructure and analytics tools to the research community.
Responsibilities:
- Grow the ability to provide data science services for the conduct of research and discovery activities
- Collaborate with other leaders to holistically meet the needs of research and discovery efforts through a robust portfolio of research data, technology and analytics services
- Create a vision and roadmap research computing environment and data science services.
- Delegate responsibilities and establish clear lines of accountability.
- Identify and incorporate best practices in research computing, biomedical data management, and data science.
- Lead the selection, development, mentoring, and coaching of team members.
- Serve as member of the leadership team, helping guide and execute on the team's vision and mission to build a world-class research informatics environment
- Propose, research, and manage the development and assessment of technology goals.
- Implement and monitor assigned initiatives.
- Drive execution of projects and components. Act as a champion for a positive organizational culture and quality of work life.
- Lead the development and implementation of cost-effective systems and technology to serve the research community.
- Develop and maintain supportive policies and practices that provide equitable access to computational resources and methods for the research community.
- Oversee vendor relationships, RFPs, and selections related to research compute environment and data science solutions.
- Ensure effective utilization of resources and monitor project deliverables.
- Provide input on departmental strategy and planning, focusing on customer-centered support and incident management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- First-hand experience in the conduct of life sciences and biomedical research
- Familiarity with research grant lifecycles
- Experience with on-prem and cloud solutions in research computing.
- Experience leveraging various biomedical research data management and data science methods.
