Summary: We are currently seeking a Product Engineer (CPP). The role of Customer Product Planning (CPP) is to market new technology to customers and win new business acquisitions. CPP ensures that JSS proposes fully aligned/customer approved technology that meets customer needs and is the best/most competitive cost possible. It requires a deep understanding of safety technology and all costs for engineering, manufacturing, materials, logistics, packaging, etc. This CPP position’s focus will be for Seatbelt Restraint Systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description are to be used as a guideline and are not meant to be all-inclusive of the essential functions of the position. Other duties may be assigned, as necessary.
- New Business Acquisition:
- Work with customer to obtain project planning information for new business quotations in advance of formal new business quotations being released (whenever possible).
- Proactively prepare initial assumption BOM’s (based on project planning details provided by the customer or historical understanding of technology that the customer desires) in order to initiate an early internal quoting phase to build an initial assumption New Cost Model (NCM). This initiative helps to accelerate the formal quoting process once the customer sends the new business quote package so a more thorough and accurate NCM can be finalized and meet the customer’s quote submission date on-time.
- Ensure the technical content being proposed for new business quotations is approved by the customer. If not, work with the customer to establish a qualification plan and drive timely customer approval of any new technologies that are required to support new business opportunities/programs.
- Understand the market and our competitors. Maximize JSS’s competitiveness as much as possible vs. competitors (both technical and cost).
- RFQ Analysis and Technical Content for Quotation:
- Prompt review of Customer RFQ’s and creation of precise/detailed technical proposals (BOM’s) that align with the Customer’s technical requests.
- Organize thorough quotation reviews (Pre-QR1 & Pre-QR2) with cross functional teams (Core Engineering, PBU Application Engineering, Product Costing, Purchasing, Operations, Logistics, Sales, etc.).
- Deep dive into the details and have a full understanding of all costs within the NCM (BOM, Manufacturing, ED&T, Packaging, etc.) and support formal quotation reviews (QR1, QR2, & PRG).
- Support any Customer Tech Reviews applicable to a new business opportunity/program to align on the technical content being quoted.
Technology Marketing:
- Understand internal current and new technologies and effectively be able to discuss/review them with customers.
- Establish communications with customers to involve them in early stages of technical development in order to get their input/feedback regarding new technology trends and devices that they require to meet their future needs.
- Effectively communicate any input/feedback from the customer to the Core Engineering Team so it can be taken into consideration for new device development.
- Identify gaps in our technology vs. customer needs.
- Feedback any such gaps to Core Engineering so they can be reviewed and addressed accordingly for future product planning consideration.
- Initiate and facilitate the coordination of tech shows with customers.
- Involve any necessary team members to help support.
Product Planning:
- Establish and maintain a clear Product Road Map and Technology Gap Analysis record (with actions to close gaps) for each customer.
- Communicate and align all Product Planning with Sales, Core Engineering, PBU Operations, GPL, etc.
- Develop and execute (with coordination with Core and Application Engineering) any necessary R&D Project/Concept Validation Testing to support new technology qualification with customers and/or demonstrate pre-existing technologies capability to meet a change/update or new customer specification not previously considered during development.
Customer Relationship:
- Create positive, collaborative, and lasting customer relationships.
- Resolve any/all issues and/or technical gaps related to new business quotations and become completely aligned with the customer.
- Visit main customers ~1-2 times per month.
- Become a key window person with customers regarding new business projects/quotations and new technology needs/requirements.

- Read the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct of Joyson Safety Systems, understand the content and sign the Code of Conduct Certification form.
- Act in an ethical, honest, and professional manner by acting on behalf of the company and conducting business with integrity, even when making difficult decisions.
- Complete all the online and/or onsite training scheduled in your location related to ethics and compliance topics.
- Become familiar with Joyson Safety Systems ' Ethics and Compliance Policies.
- Report to your Supervisor, the Executive Committee, the Compliance Department, or any of the available resources any possible violation of the Laws, the Code of Conduct, or the Company's Policies.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years in applicable safety product
