Schedule:Compensation is based on experience and skill level. Starting at $25/ hour for Credentialed Technicians. Credentialed Technicians with experience $28- 32/hr.
Position Overview:The purpose of the position is to provide primary support to the Specialist with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures, while ensuring the best quality of care possible for our patients. The Veterinary Nurse must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care. They must be able to communicate well with doctors and coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:To provide support to the Specialist with incoming consultations and procedures, including but not limited to: - Managing flow of appointment schedule and communicating with department liaison
- Coordinating diagnostics and procedures with Imaging and Anesthesia services
- Providing nursing skills and support to specialists with treatment or diagnostic requests
- Patient assessment, obtain vital data, IVC placement, phlebotomy, intubations, administering injections, radiology, laboratory, basic anesthesia (prep/ assistance/ monitoring), Recover CPR
- Record and communicate patient information accurately into patient medical records
- Communicate patient status, changes in status, patient report information accurately and thoroughly with doctor and ICU
- Maintain clean, dry, and comfortable surrounding for all patients
- Set up and maintain equipment as needed, knowledge of use and care of monitoring/ diagnostic equipment
- Safely and effectively restrain patients
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors
- Collect, prepare, label, and test laboratory specimens as needed
- Provide assistance with patient euthanasia and aftercare of remains in a timely manner
- Suture removals, ear cleaning, and nail trims
- Provide basic client education (nutrition, home care, medication administration, post- op care etc)
- Re- stock and maintain cleanliness of specialty department areas
- Train less experienced staff members on policies, procedures, technical skills, medical information
- Cross- train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed
Experience & Job Requirements:- Minimum of 2 years experience
- Ability to perform all key responsibilities of Technician Assistant
- Knowledge of safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practices
- Comprehension of commonly used medical terminology and equipment
- Ability to calculate accurate dosages and injections
- Familiarity with CPR and rescue breathing
- Ability to take direction from a variety of people under various situations and accurately follow instructions
- Capability of anticipating needs of Doctors and Nurses and show initiative
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately during emergency situations, and remain calm under pressure
- Excellent communication/people skills
- Good grooming and hygiene
- Must have team-oriented attitude and promote positive culture
- Considerable tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients affected by a variety of problems
- Ability to work with and without direct supervision
- Capability to kneel, bend, and to lift various sizes of animals onto treatment tables, without assistance at times (< 50 lbs)
Education Requirements- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelors and/or Technician Certification preferred
