We are seeking an experienced Insurance and Risk Manager to lead our risk management and insurance activities within the EPC Solar industry. This role is essential for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks associated with our solar energy projects. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of insurance, bonding, and risk assessment, ensuring our projects are protected and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Insurance Program Management: Oversee the company's insurance portfolio, including general liability, professional liability, builder's risk, and workers' compensation, specifically tailored to solar EPC projects. Ensure policies are current, compliant, and provide adequate coverage.
- Solar Project Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments for solar energy projects, identifying potential risks and recommending appropriate insurance coverage and bonding solutions to mitigate those risks.
- Bonding and Surety Management: Manage the acquisition of performance bonds, payment bonds, and other surety bonds required for solar EPC projects. Ensure all bonding processes are completed on time and in accordance with project specifications.
- Contractual Risk Transfer: Collaborate with legal and contracts teams to review and negotiate insurance and indemnity clauses in contracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors involved in solar projects. Ensure that all contractual obligations are met and risks are effectively transferred.
- Claims Management: Handle all insurance claims related to solar project incidents or losses. Coordinate with insurance carriers, legal teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and effective claims resolution.
- Subcontractor and Vendor Compliance: Verify that all subcontractors and vendors involved in solar projects meet the company's insurance requirements. Maintain accurate records of insurance certificates and bonding for compliance purposes.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations specific to the solar EPC industry, including requirements related to the Inflation Reduction Act and state-specific regulations like NYSERDA.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare detailed reports on insurance and risk management activities for solar projects, including claims analysis, risk assessments, and coverage evaluations. Present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Team Leadership: Promote a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk management across the organization. Collaborate with legal, corporate and operations team-members.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in insurance and risk management, with at least 3 years in the EPC industry. Solar or renewable energy experience preferred.
- Deep understanding of insurance policies, bonding, and risk management practices specific to solar energy projects.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, including the Davis-Bacon Act, NYSERDA, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in risk management and insurance software tools.
- Professional certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), ARM (Associate in Risk Management), or CRIS (Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist) desired.
- Experience managing insurance and risk for large-scale solar EPC projects highly desired.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to drive risk management initiatives within a project-focused environment.
- Ability to work onsite in our Malta, NY office, Monday-Friday.
- Unrestricted work authorization for the United States and exceptional written and verbal communications skills.

Compensation:
The likely compensation range for this position is $80,000-$110,000 plus a discretionary bonus based on individual and business performance. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your qualifications and experience.
