We are seeking for a Process Engineer for Paso Robles, CA area. The Process Engineer is responsible for supporting safety, quality, and production for a Surfactant Manufacturing facility. This includes monitoring and improving the day-to-day operations of plant processes to ensure production goals are met, customer demands are satisfied, and team members work safely. This is accomplished by spending a significant amount of time in the production areas applying sound manufacturing/engineering principles.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Investigate and resolve equipment issues. Utilize and implement both sound engineering practices and statistical methods to improve equipment and process performance.
* Know and understand Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures, and Workplace Instructions.
* Provide engineering support to refine current chemical manufacturing processes, with special attention to Process Safety Management (PSM) and OSHA requirements.
* Perform requirements for documentation concerning PSM including the development of P&ID, PFD, and equipment specifications.
* Work with local plant management and process owners to drive PHA revalidations, recommendations, and action items to completion.
* Lead risk assessments such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as required.
* Provide technical support with Quality Management System (QMS) audit findings.
* Identify and provide technical expertise to support safety improvement, optimization, and risk reduction opportunities.
* Support work teams in solving quality issues, production delays, equipment failures, and material dispositions.
* Evaluate current processes and suggest/implement process improvements that enhance product quality, process safety, and environmental compliance.
* Review requests for deviations or exemptions to the established specifications and standards.
* Coordinate and execute the capital plan for the plant.
* Troubleshoot processing issues to determine root cause and implement resolutions.
* Coordinate the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure approval, timely completion, safety review, and closure.
* Involvement in developing, updating, training, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Work with Corporate in coordinating trials for new products and processes.
* Track, analyze, and communicate relevant data relating to Safety, Productivity, Cost, and Quality resulting in Continuous Improvement activities.
* Work with local management and personnel to perform any training needed.
* Assist in determining, coordinating, and prioritizing maintenance activities.
* Involvement and/or leadership in structured reviews such as Process Safety Management, Hazard and Operability Studies, Management of Change, and Process Hazard Analysis.
* Work with multiple departments to bring new products to market safely and efficiently.
* Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by the supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Must have a Bachelor's Degree in a scientific field such as Chemical Engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
* Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a chemical/manufacturing setting.
* Knowledge and experience in chemical manufacturing processes.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills.
* Experience working with Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office.
* SAP experience.
* Good mechanical aptitude.
* Comprehensive understanding and ability to apply principles of Engineering and Process Control.
* Knowledge of process machinery including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and instrumentation including temperature, flow, pressure, pH, and conductivity.
* Understanding of instrumentation and process control.
* Demonstrated technical and analytical skills resulting in troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
* This is a hands-on position requiring a significant amount of time in the production area working with production and maintenance personnel. Will be exposed to hot and cold climates.
* Works with and around a wide range of hazardous chemicals, including acids, bases, and flammables.
* Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for each situation.
