Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate Systems Engineer (Level 2) to support the development and fielding of mission-critical embedded spacecraft systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for systems engineering. The Associate Systems Engineer will work closely with senior systems engineers and cross-functional teams to support the design, analysis, and management of complex systems throughout their lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities
System Design and Architecture:
Assist senior systems engineers in developing and maintaining system architecture, designs, and models.
Contribute to defining system-level requirements and translating them into detailed design and development tasks.
Collaborate with engineering teams (software, hardware, mechanical, etc.) to ensure system integration and compatibility.
System Analysis:
Participate in system-level analysis, including functional, performance, and safety analysis.
Assist in conducting trade studies to evaluate different design options.
Utilize modeling and simulation tools to predict system behavior and performance.
System Integration and Testing:
Assist in planning and executing system-level integration and testing activities.
Contribute to developing test plans, procedures, and scripts, and analyzing test results.
Debug and root cause system issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
Documentation and Configuration Management:
Assist in creating and maintaining system-level documentation, including requirements, design, test, and user documents.
Support system configuration management and ensure traceability of requirements, design, and testing artifacts.
Stakeholder Communication:
Assist in collaborating with project stakeholders, including customers, to understand their needs and manage expectations.
Regularly report on system development progress, risks, and issues.
Continuous Learning and Process Improvement:
Stay up-to-date with the latest systems engineering tools, methodologies, and best practices.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and standards.
Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with systems engineering tools (e.g., Matlab, Simulink, SysML, DOORS) and methodologies (e.g., MBSE, Agile).
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 15288, INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook).
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a systems engineering role.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (and/or equivalent experience); MS desired.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in systems engineering or a related role.
