The Manager of Project Controls is responsible for overseeing and managing a team of professionals that ensure successful planning and execution of all project control activities for TEiC Industrial Construction projects. This role is responsible for coaching, evaluating, training, coordinating, and providing technical direction to specialists to perform these project planning, scheduling, analysis, cost engineering, risk assessment/management, and reporting activities at a high level for their assigned projects. The person in this role will need to effectively collaborate with the TEiC leadership team and advise in areas such as estimating, proposals, contract terms, project management software utilization, and project planning and scheduling best practices.
Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, provide technical direction to, and evaluate performance of a team of project controls specialists.
- Exhibit proven ability to mentor and train personnel to develop a pipeline of candidates for project controls and other career opportunities.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and expertise.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
- Own and ensure adherence to TEiC Industrial Construction policies and procedures related to project control function (project cost structure and budgeting, change management, schedule management, earned value, and field progressing)
- Project Planning and Scheduling:
- Collaborate with project teams to develop comprehensive project plans and schedules and assign specialists to support effort as required.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of project schedules using industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera P6).
- Advise project team and staff on schedule analysis (identifying critical path activities, milestones, and dependencies to ensure accurate project sequencing).
Cost Engineering / Analysis:
- Oversee the preparation of project budgets by analyzing cost estimates, resource requirements, and procurement plans.
- Advise on cost estimate and schedule inputs for proposal development, considering project requirements and constraints.
- Conduct cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and propose strategies for cost optimization.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Establish project performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess project progress.
- Oversee the collection and analysis of project data, including scope changes, resource utilization, and schedule variances.
- Oversee the preparation of regular reports and dashboards to communicate project performance to stakeholders.
Risk Analysis and Management:
- Identify potential project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments to determine the probability and impact of risks.
- Oversee the monitoring and tracking of identified risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing appropriate contingency plans as needed.
Change Control:
- Oversee a change control process to manage project scope changes, ensuring proper documentation and approval.
- Evaluate the impact of change requests on project schedules, costs, and resources.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop strategies for managing changes while minimizing disruptions.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Collaborate with project managers, field supervision, and other stakeholders to provide project controls support and guidance.
- Communicate project status, risks, and recommendations effectively to stakeholders, both verbally and in written reports.
- Facilitate project review meetings and participate in discussions to address project control-related concerns.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in industrial construction project control function, including field experience.
- Minimum of 3 years managing directly supervising and/or managing project control specialists in the industrial construction field.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail.
- Proven experience presenting information and analysis to senior management.
- Proven experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Proficient in project management software/tools (e.g., Primavera P6, InEight and/or Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Practical experience completing forensic analysis on project cost and schedule plans.
- Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with industrial construction practices and relevant industry codes, regulations, and standards.
- Practical experience on Power Generation and/or Oil, Gas, and Chemical construction projects is preferred.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMI-SP, PSP, CCP, CP) are a plus.
- Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) is a plus.
