POSITION SUMMARY:
This employee has the responsibility for coordination of total resident care. RN Nursing Supervisor performs responsible supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating all nursing units. The individual must have had advanced training and broad nursing experience including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, ability to adapt techniques and procedures in accordance with unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment. The work is carried out according to standards of professional nursing practices, facility policies, rules and regulations, and State and Federal regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1 Verifies daily staffing and redistribution, as necessary;
2 Collaborates with all charge nurses daily, to exchange information regarding resident care, resident condition and all matters affecting resident well-being (i.e. admissions, discharges, transfers, out of or within the building), makes recommendations regarding nursing process, and communicates concerns to supervisors of other departments;
3 Makes rounds, morning and night, as time allows, to assess residents condition, giving special attention to critically ill residents;
4 Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each resident;
5 Performs medication passes and/or direct resident care as needed;
6 Participates in resident care committee meetings;
7 Reinforces the training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive reinforcement;
8 Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (i.e., change of resident condition or pronouncement of death);
9 Assists in assuring a safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees, and visitors;
10 Assures that the building is secure during the evening and night hours by checking doors and alarms according to nursing facility protocols;
11 Reviews incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness;
12 Monitors meal service on the units and in the dining areas to identify issues requiring intervention and to assure resident meal satisfaction and nutritional adequacy;
13 Assists in development and implementation of nursing facility Quality Improvement Program;
14 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
15 Performs other duties as requested.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/ VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1 The RN Nursing Supervisor must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and there must be current registration with the professional board of nurse examiners of the State.
2 Experience in the nursing field.
3 Supervisory experience in long term care is required.

1 Must have thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques and practices.
2 Must have thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and equipment used in the area to which assigned.
3 Must have knowledge of dietetic, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
4 Must have knowledge of medications, their proper dosage and expected results.
5 Must have skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.
6 Must be able to coordinate and supervise the nursing functions in an effective manner.
7 Must be able to maintain an empathetic attitude toward residents and to gain their confidence in order to work with them effectively.
8 Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a technical nature.
9 Must be able to recognize and identify symptoms and to make decisions quickly in emergencies.
10 Must be able to train subordinates in work procedures and to organize and direct training carried out by members of the staff.
11 Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
12 Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
