Job Overview: Optomi, in partnership with a leading broadband communications company, is seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to join their team, focusing on the management, security, and optimization of server images and infrastructure. This role is critical in ensuring that their Linux-based systems are secure, up-to-date, and effectively integrated across various platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, securing, and maintaining server images, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive automation and enhance infrastructure performance.
Responsibilities of the right candidate:
- Image Management and Security: Create and harden Linux server images by stripping down unnecessary components, testing, and securing them to meet internal security standards. Manage these images through their lifecycle, including applying security patches and updates.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Support and maintain existing on-premise server infrastructure, ensuring stability and performance. Participate in infrastructure QA, test automation, and lifecycle management to meet or exceed operational expectations.
- Cross-Platform Image Deployment: Export and manage server images in various formats, including VMware, Dell/HP servers, and raw images for OpenStack. Ensure seamless integration and deployment across different environments.
- Collaboration and Improvement: Work closely with other teams, such as storage, virtualization, microservices, and networking, to develop and refine infrastructure solutions. Participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions align with business and operational needs.
- Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts for tasks like server provisioning and infrastructure certification using tools like BASH/Shell, Python, or Ansible. Drive the continuous engineering and certification of compute platforms.
- Windows Golden Image Initiative: Lead and contribute to the ongoing Windows Golden Image initiative, ensuring the consistent and secure deployment of Windows server images.
Experience of the right candidate:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in administering, integrating, and designing data center infrastructure solutions, including server hardware, virtualization platforms, SAN switching, storage technologies, basic networking, and cloud management platforms.
- 2+ years of experience designing and engineering Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) solutions for workload optimization and placement.
- Server experience such as Ciso, Dell, HP.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS B-Series infrastructure and UCS Manager.
- Strong understanding of workflow orchestration platforms, container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker), and automation tools (BASH/Shell, Python, Ansible).
Skills:
- Proficient in developing and managing secure server images.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capability to independently manage multiple projects.
Preferred Experience:
- Understanding of infrastructure logging and monitoring solutions.
- Experience with automated builds of new datacenter infrastructure deployments.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals and object storage solutions.
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA Data Center, Linux Foundation Certified Engineer, Linux Foundation Kubernetes Administrator, VMware VCP, and NetApp Certified Data Administrator.
