Part-Time Special Education Instructor

We are hiring a dedicated, energetic Special Education Instructor with a passion for making a positive difference for 1st - 12th-grade students who haven’t had success in traditional classroom settings. Our customized one-teacher-to-one-student approach provides an opportunity to meet each student’s learning style within an accredited curricula program making a real difference one student, one class at a time.
Students attend Brightmont Academy campuses for multiple reasons including; learning disabilities, attention deficits, emotional issues, health concerns or other individual special needs. Our students look to our instructors for better learning strategies needed for school and career success.
Our instructors are trained to teach with a gradual release approach that allows them to meet students where they are and gently lead students to their fullest potential. Our philosophy is an approach that balances students' academic, social, and life skills goals while keeping them on track to graduation.
The special education teacher would use the provided curriculum (APEX Learning) and provide the accommodations and modifications necessary based on the IEP in order for the student to be successful. The ideal candidate will have experience working in ASD, ED and/or SLD programs.
This is a part-time opportunity with a flexible schedule. Our school is open Monday - Friday from 8:30-5, you would be able to let us know your hours of availability and we would create a schedule around what works for you. No lesson planning, grading, or administrative duties outside of the school. There is no cap on hours and ideally we’d like someone to be available at least 15 hours a week.
Essential Instructor responsibilities:
- Demonstrate “whole student” pedagogy demonstrating awareness of student’s learning style, interests, and special needs
- Employ advanced instructional methods and adjust instructional strategies based on assessments, standards, and goals to meet each student’s learning needs
- Cultivate a learning relationship that encourages student growth by offering positive, effective ways to encourage and motivate each student
- Demonstrate self-initiative & creative thinking to make instruction fun
- Connect prior and new ideas helping students view the whole picture
- Increase students’ academic confidence and engagement through positive interactions
- Be “part of the team” and create an organizational culture that promotes learning as an exciting and enjoyable experience for students
- Demonstrate proactive leadership skills by evaluating students’ goals every step of the way and adjust instruction as needed
- Demonstrate an understanding of teaching objectives and core concepts
- Demonstrate professionalism in all communications on campus
- Seek feedback from director and colleagues; escalate concerns appropriately and in a timely manner
- Respect student confidentiality at all times
- Other duties as needed
Essential experiences and skills:
- Must have an LBS1 Certification
- 4 year Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
- Demonstrates proficiency of technology resources, tools, and curricula
- Experience using G-Suite and Chromebooks
- Administrative skills for lesson coverage, grades and pacing progress
- Positive professional communication skills: written, verbal, and non-verbal
- Able to provide quality and effective instructional strategies
- Able to pass a federal background screening

Physical presence on the campus and/or corporate office is required as it is part of the essential function of the job. The particular job duties of this position may change based upon the needs of Brightmont Academy. Additional administrative duties may be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.
