Overview:
Windwalker Group is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Counselor with a specialization in substance abuse to join our team as the Junior Psychological Health Coordinator. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting military personnel at the Vermont Army National Guard by enhancing access to Psychological Health (PH) and Substance Abuse counseling resources. Your responsibilities will also involve reducing stigmas, breaking down barriers to Behavioral Health (BH) resources, and fostering a supportive environment.
Location: Vermont Army National Guard based in Colchester VT.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Mental Health Counseling, with a focus on substance use/misuse/abuse and suicidal ideations.
- Help maintain a 24/7 crisis phone, offering support through calls and texts for Soldiers and their family members.
- Conduct mental status exams and other mental health evaluations.
- Attend weekly staff meetings to stay informed and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Navigate complex military health systems, support programs, and legal systems to ensure comprehensive care.
- Facilitate Behavioral Health briefs for units of varying sizes, including groups of 20-60 Soldiers and larger audiences of 100-300 Soldiers and Family Members pre- and post-deployment.
- Advise unit leadership on situations involving Soldiers' mental health and fitness for duty.
- Collaborate with community-based counselors in navigating military requirements related to mental health issues.
- Provide group therapy sessions after critical incidents, such as the death or serious injury of a unit member.
- Assist Soldiers and Family Members in finding community-based counselors and maintain relationships with clinicians to expedite the process.
Requirements:
- Masters degree in counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Vermont State licensure as a Mental Health Counselor or Substance Abuse Counselor
- Strong knowledge of substance abuse treatment modalities
- Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of evidence-based practices related to suicidal ideations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with military personnel, understanding military culture, or working on a military base
- Familiarity with military deployment requirements and mental health regulations.
- Training in crisis intervention and trauma-focused therapy.
