Operations Manager
The Amalgamated Sugar Company – Paul, Idaho
Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking an Operations Manager that is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sugar beet factory, prioritizing employee safety, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining high-product quality, housekeeping standards, and achieving production targets. This role involves managing personnel, coordinating with different departments, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to optimize factory performance. This position will report to the Assistant Plant Manager.

Additional Responsibilities:
Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
Key member of the safety committee, attending and providing leadership at monthly safety committee meetings as well as involvement in incident reviews.
Assure that take 5 and Atlas Safety Audits are being conducted and of high quality.
Investigate and report any incidents or accidents and implement corrective actions.
Oversee all production activities to ensure they align with company goals and objectives.
Lead daily meetings with all levels of management within the organization.
Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.
Monitor and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors and production staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff.
Ensure proper staffing levels and manage shift schedules.
Responsible for hourly crew promotions, crew schedules, and filling of vacant jobs as outlined in in the CBA (collective bargaining agreement).
Ensure all products meet the required quality standards and specifications.
Work closely with the quality control team to implement and maintain quality assurance programs.
Work closely with the feed products and logistics teams to ensure timely and efficient movement of all byproducts into and out of the facility.
Responsible for all thick juice, molasses, and other syrup movements into and out of the factory.
Address and resolve any quality-related issues promptly.
Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational to meet key operating performance objectives.
Address any equipment issues promptly to avoid disruptions in production.
Prepare and manage the operations budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings.
Track and report on financial performance related to operations.
Provide direction and support to Process Optimization & Engineering teams along with leadership to ensure that critical and important process bottlenecks are being identified, defined, and have action plans to implement.
Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects and teams.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to drive innovation.
Collaborate with other departments, including procurement, logistics, and sales, to ensure seamless operations.
Communicate regularly with senior management to provide updates on operational performance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields or exceptional work experience and knowledge of efficient sugar processing.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing operations with at least3 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong consideration will be given to candidates previously in roles of production management or continuous improvement preferably in the sugar industry or closely related food processing industry.
