We are hiring a 2nd Shift Tooling Engineer to join our team! This position oversees the Tooling team in the planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of Tooling Systems. Monitor safety, manning, scheduling, mentoring, corrective action and problem solving of Tooling team.
Typical work hours will be 3:00pm to 11:00pm. However, need to be available to train on 1st shift.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities Include
- Direct supervision of Tooling employees.
- Monitor daily and weekly schedules in addition to scheduling overtime and weekend work or any schedule changeovers.
- Work with customers and design engineering group to ensure customer satisfaction and design for manufacturability. Track development and cost of new tooling and establish tool tryout procedure to ensure quality and process control of new/revised tools.
- Responsible for coordinating design and delivery of new equipment including machinery, tool & die handling equipment, and miscellaneous tooling.
- Repair a variety of dies and cavities meeting accuracy requirements, determining techniques, and making decisions on metals, allowances, mechanism detail, fit, and assembly.
- Attention to detail in performing work, checking work, and documenting to assure quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints or able to work from verbal or written instructions or from a part to be copied or fitted.
- Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Use hand tools of the trade.
- Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Test dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
- Assist tooling personnel in the repair and maintenance of tooling and equipment.
- Understand and work with hydraulic circuits and components.
- Work in a safe and efficient manner with good housekeeping practices
- Monitor all areas of the plant safety, cleanliness and order.
- Monitor and implement continuous improvement. Attend staff meetings.
- Perform evaluations on all Tooling hourly employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or five years’ related leadership experience in diverse Tooling Engineer roles supporting a modern manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Tooling trade.
- Technical training, including blueprint reading, shop math
- Ability to locate and pull dies scheduled for maintenance and repair, open dies inspect for defects, clean and polish cavities, surfaces and parting line surfaces.
- Ability to check water lines for breaks, blockage and free flow and install replacement fittings as necessary.
- Ability to set up or maintain low voltage electrical circuits.
- Ability to set up, trouble shoot and inspect pneumatic circuits.
- Ability to replace bent or broken ejector and punch pins.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor tool problems.
- Ability to perform various die welding operations as necessary to repair and modify tools.
- Ability to operate toolroom equipment, such as lathes mils and surface grinders, CNC mill and lathe set up and programing a plus.
- The ability to use various hand tools, hydraulic presses.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
